Nightreign is literally trying to be a LIVE SERVICE Game. They're only going to stop nickel, and diming people when everyone catches on.
The fact this isn't a Single Player game with multiplayer being "Optional", is the major selling factor/gameplay behind Nightreign.
You can't create your own character in Nightreign, rather you're stuck picking from classes, that have certain playstyles. You were never locked out of a way to play in other souls games, regardless of having DLC or not. In Nightrein you are. BUY DLC or you're stuck with old bosses, and no new playstyles.
You guys are all pretending this is the same as a "single player game" with DLC's, when clearly it's not.
Stop trying to White Knight this, and talking out of your asses.
Heck DS2 a mostly singleplayer experience got 3 DLCs, this will get at least that and likely much more. Its a multiplayer game with heroes and maps and skins, think about it.
They straight up said that is precisely what Nightreign is NOT going to be.
The other souls games got full blown new areas with a score of new bosses, locals, weapons, armor, spells, factions, etc., etc.. Nightreign is just going to be selling characters and bosses separately. It's not the same in the slightest. Bandai Namco has been trying so hard over the last 10+ years to get into the MTX games market and each time they do they're either met with lukewarm success to outright failure. Of course it was inevitable that at some point BamCo was going to force it into one of their most successful franchises.
Now, Miyazaki-lead projects might stick to the expansion pack style DLC's, but any other IP not lead by Miyazaki is fair game for Bandai to plague their IP's with MTX stuff. They are publishers after all, that's just what publishers do. And Nightreign is gonna be their foot in the door. I'd love to be proven wrong here but they've made no indication that this ISN'T going to be the direction they're taking the game in. And they've proved that's what they're gonna do by locking playable characters and fightable bosses behind highly expensive bonus editions.
You know how many game companies/publishers have said they wont MTX the hell out of their product only to do exactly that either at launch or 3 weeks after launch? More than you could count on both hands. All the great companies from the past are now some of the worst companies of today for exactly that.
If they end up putting MTX into it I'll stop playing and move on. Simple as that.
So far all they have done is announce ONE additional DLC to be released later this year. That's it. They have released DLCs for all their souls like games so far. I dont see the issue with this one.
But for the moment, since Demon's Souls or even since the king's field series, From Software have never done any of that.
They are just selling a "season pass" like they did with Dark Souls 2 and 3 so nothing suprising so far.
It's one DLC. That's it.
Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Sekiro, Bloodbourne, Even Elden Ring, never had microtransactions and have sold extremely well and were never live service games.
"If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do, you're misinformed".
Um it IS Sold separately. Hence the digital Deluxe edition.
You people don't seem to be capable of distinguishing between expansion DLC and microtransaction DLC. You compare getting 1 new class to play through paid means the same as getting an entire additional continent, weapons, armor, bosses, lore, and environments. Are they both DLC? Yes. But one is an expansion pack and another is a microtransaction. There's a difference. If you can't tell them apart then you have no claim to stake in this discussion.
