ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

2 Player Coop feasible from the Network Test?
I was watching Fextralife's review of the network test and noticed at around 3:22 in, the screen shows himself and only one other player when fighting Margit.

For those who played in the Network Test, did they add 2 player matchmaking?

I'd hope the full product has it, or else it will cripple the game's reception and longevity. Many have assumed it's only solo and three-player... which, to be quite honest, would be one of the stupider developmental choices for the Souls series.

I'll need private lobbies, invites, and two-player runs before I'd become receptive to splaying my man-purse akimbo for FromSoft's latest thrusting weapon...

You can do two player runs but it will add a third randomly. You from my knowledge can and will not be able to stop a third person from being added. The only true way to only play with 2 players is if someone leaves.

They could always change this in the future i suppose.

Being able to have a 2 player party and the game adding a random third is good news. Thats in line with how matchmaking works with most games nowadays.

It's actually awful, because you cannot play true, duo co-op; and if someone leaves, the scaling will be for three players; making it nearly unplayable. This will not only turn a lot of players off -- most Souls games being played in two-player co-op -- which will reduce the player pool; but, it will also kill many runs due to people dropping out for whatever reasons, leaving the two remaining players severely handicapped.

I envisage this ending up with situations where people insta-quit the moment a player drops out, and/or just hara-kiri if there is some dumb "penalty" for straight up leaving a session. This will grow increasingly common, as people realise that two players (much less, solo) with three-player scaling, is a game-breaker; which will lead to an exponentially diminished player base; thereby, obviously, killing the longevity of the game.

NB: If two-player scaling does exist, then omitting two player / duo co-op as an option (even if only in private lobbies), is an even dumber design omission than leaving two players / one player stranded with three-player scaling. That is, why disallow duo co-op if the mechanics are already in place for it?!

I will say, cuz I haven't seen it brought up anywhere else, when I played the test and someone disconnected bosses defiantly had less health, like how in elden ring boss health scales off of number of players. I'm assuming that means they at least have SOME duo/solo scaling ready to go.
