These people don't understand how big Fromsoftware is by now. Not are they most likely already cooking at least one more major soulslike, they have to make smaller projects like this spin off with multiplayer focus, in order to not having to lay off people like it's common in the industry when a big title is finished.
This game will be fun, even if it's not for everyone, just like I don't care about armoured core, but even I can see that it's a great title.
I like the builds, the options, the exploring. I still have stuff in every souls game I want to do in each game and go back to play each on over and over over the years. If this game ends up being what I think it is- it just doesn’t have the things I play souls games for… I enjoy the combat but this seems to be appealing to someone other than me. Hopefully I’m wrong.
I have been worried about some of the companies buying shares in FROM- hopefully this isn’t related to tencent (I think it’s them) starting to have influence.
personally, as somebody who remembers that FROM used to make all types of games, im happy to see em branch out again
They have said they are working on the next AC game and this roguelike. Since it’s been 3 years since Elden ring- it would certainly be nice to hear if they DO have another mainline Souls Game.
I would assume they would make another one- but if I’m correct that tencent has their claws in From that’s another thing that makes one worry a bit.
Putting "Elden Ring" in front of it sets an expectation that I suspect a good few Elden Ring fans may be slightly disappointed in.
I'm all for spicing up a formula by adding to it. That's how game series improve over time.
You maintain the core features that people love and add extra features worth justifying a sequel.
Outright changing core elements of a game or removing beloved features (such as character creation and build versatility), is likely going to upset diehard fans of a title.
I see this a lot in modern gaming. Developers clinging onto IP's by name only, while the mechanics drift farther and farther away from what made them popular.
Look at No More Room In Hell 2 for a recent example.
If they'd just come up with a new working title, it would save them a decent amount of backlash from fans looking for an improved version of the game they love.
I'm kind of on the fence with the game concept but in any case there's no F way I'll buy it for that price out of principle. And that DLC is the cherry on the top!
This can only be mod-worthy content at its best.
