ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

Terrible experience
After testing this on PS5, it feels like a multiplayer mode that could've been implemented in the base Elden Ring. There’s no way I’m paying $40 for this.

Not to mention that in every match I got into, there was no teamwork whatsoever. Players were just marking spots on the map and running towards bosses to finish the match as quickly as possible. Almost no one cared about exploration, which is one of the best aspects of Elden Ring.

The performance was also terrible. It’s like 40-50 fps all the time (performance mode) and a lot of textures weren’t loading. I hope FS fixes this by launch, but it’s not enough to convince me to buy this game on day one.

Did you consider following one of your teammates instead of running off in your own direction?

Yes. I believe this game would be better if all 3 players could talk to each other. But without that, it's not good.

On Day 2, things start to get harder. Players need to look for better weapons/spells, otherwise the bosses get really tough. Also, the world gets smaller, like in other battle royale games, so you have to take this into consideration as well.

NReign feels like something designed to milk more money from ER before FS can finally move on from this. But based on what I saw, $40 is a bit steep.

I don't think this is the type of game for exploration. You're driven to a specific area in a specific time & during that time you have to get as much loot/dmg/level as possible. Exploration just has no place in this kind of game. You can do that in Elden Ring because you're not limited by time & area.

One crucial thing I need to add: this isn't a soulslike game. It's more like a multiplayer action game with hack'n slash and roguelike mechanics. Even considering this, feels like a rushed product, based on the test version.

If you don't like souls games and enjoy fast-paced roguelike games, you might end up liking Nightreign.

But if you want to play this because u want another soulslike experience, forget it.

Yeah, it's basically an Elden Ring game for people who didn't like/play Elden Ring.

First try I died on the final fight. Cleared it my second try. It was fun, and I am really excited for the release
I can see the appeal. I love souls combat and readily accessible bosses sounds nice as summoning is dead. A lot of what I'd like to see is missing like build freedom, duos, and some pvp element but a condensed ER experience with no huge time commitment doesn't sound too bad.

i can agree on the performance. but the game is exactly the opposite of elden ring. you dont explore just for the fun of exploring, but you have to optimize your actions, cooperate with the party to do the right things as quickly as possible

This is what I kinda presumed. Not for me then. Time to get back to armored core lol
Yeah, MP in ER has always been a slower more methodical thing. You play slowly, clear enemies and guide the host to interesting spots and find items. The only exception was if they were trying kill a boss

But this? With the time pressure of the circle and no way for fast and clear communication? As I have yet to see anyone who has played it saying there was voice chat or any other sort of fast coms system, I don’t think they’ve thought this through

In ER, if a co-op partner runs off and dies or just doesn’t do well, it’s a real whatever. Team work was never really necessary and even just doing your own thing wasn’t a problem. But this game seems to center around cooperation. And not just cooperation, it’s cooperation under a time pressure with no avenues for easy communication. That just sounds like a recipe for a disaster.

Readily accessible bosses? Sure, the game is a boss rush of some sort, but it takes a significant time investment for you to reach your boss.
Say you want to fight the last boss, that’s AT LEAST 40 minutes of time investment (or some I’m told) if you do well and don’t lose mid run. That’s a far cry from running from your grace/stake of Marika back to the boss.

Thing is in ER you cant replay a boss unless its through a summon or ng. "Readily accessible" is relative to the time investment you'd have to put in to get to the boss again in ER. 40 minutes is much less time compared to the hours needed otherwise.

This is why it should of just been a boss rush mode DLC for Elden Ring, people to this day are still requesting one.

Won’t it be the worst for nightreign? I know you can choose which final boss you’re going for, but isn’t every other boss randomized? So unless all you want is the final boss, you’re practically still at the mercy of luck for every other boss.
I was told the map was going to be procedural, so even field bosses are going to be random.

I’m not sure about you, but having a “boss rush” of only a choice of 8 bosses seems just kind of terrible
There is 2 sides here. Those who just like fighting certain bosses and those who would rather be faced with the unexpected. For me the souls games are best when played through for the first time, on subsequent playthroughs when all the mystery is gone it loses some of that luster. Nightreign gets around that issue to a large extend for people like me.
