I for one like this as it gives the modders even more assets and materials to incorporate into a modded Elden Ring.
I'd have been just fine to wait up to a year.. if it meant. No BS rushing mechanic.. Myself and three friends can go throughout a large world and kill stuff.
Not this Gamer Fuel, cracked.. got to beat the game in less than an hour mentality
They went from no DLC plans for Elden Ring to releasing a solid dlc and an imminent side project with no Miyazaki involvement whatsoever.
More than likely, the main team is still cooking behind the scenes and will release something next year. Doesn't hurt for them to experiment. I wish they could keep throwing out Dark Souls games, but I have to be realistic. Not many companies last without diversifying their portfolio somewhat.
Characters move very fast. Sprinting out of combat is the same speed as sprinting while riding Torrent in Elden Ring.
If you're fast enough you can explore at least 3/4 of the map in one run. And if you want to explore the other quarter, just go on a new Expedition. It's not a one-and-done game.
