ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

Fromsoft proving once again that they can revolutionize the gaming scene with Nightreign. (Not even slightly a joke)
They've managed to convince their player base to accept the idea of paying near premium price for what is essentially an asset flip. A high quality looking asset flip, but an asset flip nonetheless.

Truly, they are the pioneers of our age.

Only people that don't bother putting in energy to have any real thought thinks that this post is trying to boycott it. No one cares if you want to throw away your money.

We are talking about WHY it is a poor game and WHY the price tag is TOO HIGH. But i would imagine context and nuance are really hard concepts for you to understand.

Nah not me brah. I just think it's overpriced for what they are showing off. At the very least they should have made new minibosses instead of rehashing every single enemy that was already rehashed way too many times in the base game. Or it should be $20 at most and we would all be cool.

Good thing Mass Effect 2 and 3 weren't asset flips using the same assets from ME1. ...oh wait.
Good thing Assassin's Creed games weren't repeated asset flips, reusing the same assets from previous titles. ... oh wait.
But hey, Dragon Age weren't asset flips that reused assets from previous titles. ...oh wait.
Metal Gear Solid 5's multiple titles weren't asset flips that reused assets all over the place. ...oh wait.

Reusing assets, especially when the game is set in the same world, is a common industry practice. It blows my mind that people are so selective with their concern about this. You didn't care when Mass Effect did it, you didn't care when Dragon Age did it, you didn't care when pretty much any other game studio did this with their games. But when FromSoft does it, NOW it's a problem.

The price nearly half the new industry standard price. So that's an asinine complaint in itself.

And before anyone thinks they're clever, I'm not a FromSoft shill. I barely play their games. I'm just calling out the absurdity of crying about asset reuse when none of you care when it's done across countless other games. Sometimes far more egregiously than FromSoft does (hi, mass effect)

Huh, I didn't take you for someone who would support EA's FIFA or their numerous other sports game. But hey, you do you.

Speaking of context and nuance.... Did you buy Mass Effect 2? If so, how much did you pay for it? Considering it reused more assets than this does. Or do ME2 and ME3 get a pass for doing the same thing you're complaining about here?

Do you support BioWare doing it with Mass Effect 2 and 3? I smell hypocrisy...

no because bioware is a ♥♥♥♥ game company. I will be buying nightreign because I value a good coop experience with friends and replayability, that of which I am willing to pay the price for

They weren't a crap company when ME2 and ME3 were launched. So that deflection won't work here. They had a solid and high reputation back then.

Try again.

What makes roguelikes instantly low quality/effort in your view? Do you really think that writing an algorithm for randomised gameplay that still adheres to acceptable parameters so a game doesn't just collapse in on itself is an easy task?
It's not that roguelikes are low effort, it's that taking an already completed game and reshuffling everything around into a roguelike is one of the lowest effort ways of getting a "new game" out of it. This entire game could have been an elden ring mod.

Not that it would matter to me if they made all new assets and world, everything totally new, it would still be garbage because its fortnite clone battle royale/extraction shooter. I don't play any of those games whether they are parading around in a fromsoft skin or not.

But lots of normies who never heard of dark souls until some streamer played elden ring, those people already enjoy fortnite so they will buy it.

(1) Nope I didn't and don't intend to (2) If I was interested back in 2010 I would've fall for it because most of us were suckers. Very heavy asset reuse was very common in old games and we wouldn't complain because we were very young and impressionable. Also the industry was young and making such leaps forward in terms of graphics that it was natural to not care so much about that, Mass Effect 2 looked orders of magnitude better than games released just 4 years before so we were like "I don't care take my money". Nowadays we get to be picky because graphics are not advancing so fast, and also, unlike back then when we barely got to play a handful of games, most of us have a huge backlog of old and new games to play so it's not that easy to sell us asset flips.

Nope, today I wouldn't because I'm not like 15 anymore. If today Mass Effect 2 released and looked like a rushed asset flip and they tried to charge me $40, I'd point out to the myriad of other games costing $40 or less that aren't lazy asset flips, and I'd demand Mass Effect 2 to cost something reasonable like $20 or $30 bucks depending on other factors (voice acting maybe?).
I'm replaying the Batman Arkham series and noticing how heavy the asset reuse was back then. While I think those games are amazing, if released today I would pay full price for 2 of them at most. Back then it was more common to do this ♥♥♥♥ because the generational leaps in games were amazing and there weren't many alternatives, today is not that easy to let that slide.

In a similar way, 20 years ago it was common to pay $60 (way more adjusted for inflation) for a 10 hours game and we weren't unhappy with it. Nowadays we demand more because there are a million devs willing to provide more hours of entertainment at that price.
