news flash: not even kernel level anticheat stops cheating and hackers! there is no such thing as unhackable software!
how many times do games have to come out with this malware and be completely overrun with hackers and cheaters before you people wake up and smell the BS?
NOTHING will ever fully stop hackers and cheaters because it is a literally impossible task.
go outside and play with physical objects irl if you want that to have a chance of being possible.
plus, EAC has never done much to stop cheating in games even before evolving into kernel level malware. to the point where it's been known as "it's called easy anticheat because it's easily bypassed" for years, if not since it was first made.
i seriously doubt it being a root kit will change that.
also, please check blame truth's youtube channel if you want to see just how bad this kind of anticheat software is.
it's literally the meme.
gamers: this will stop hackers and cheaters, right?
devs: ...
gamers: right...?
devs: ...
and yet gamers just want the devs to keep pushing further and further only ever escalating the arms race (and it is an arms race).
and yet nothing anyone does will ever stop hacking and cheating in video games.
has anything ever stopped Cheat Happens? that company that sells trainers for games? no.
and there's forums and websites that do the same thing for games with all manner of anticheat software too. it's not just an arms race, it's a full blown INDUSTRY at this point because it only ever escalates.
and all the gamers who support anticheat just want it to KEEP escalating more and more and more...never caring about their own safety and security or that of other people.
More so, doing so in favor of preventing cheating in a coop PvE game..
In any case, after the 3 second amazement wears off, the next step is to forever block them.
Anti cheat is fine and necessary in online PvP. Kernel level anti cheat isn't. Praising bloatware forcing its boot alongside OS with kernel privileges, isn't. Even less so for a PvE game.
If you want to hand over control and your privacy, play on a current gen console. PC is all about freedom.
You're right
and washing your hands only removes 90% of bacteria, so why bother washing them at all?
The goal isn't to stop every cheater and it never has been. It's to stop the vast majority who don't have the technical ability, hardware, or money to bypass the anti cheat. So if it stop the vast majority of low effort cheaters, which it does, then it's a win. It provides a vastly better experience for legit players. Combined with other protections, like reporting/banning, and (in the case of Fromsoft) a server side save file anti cheat which scans for certain anomalies (not many, tbh), the complete package could be rather effective. In fact in Elden Ring, it is. Except...
As stated before, the current weakness, is Linux/Proton, which may (hopefully) be fixed this time around
The position of "well, if someone tries hard enough they can cheat anyways" isn't a valid justification for doing nothing at all.
Someone else here mentioned that devs should just code their games better. So how does a dev code their game to detect kernel level cheats?
By running the game at the kernel level
And we're back to square one
agreed...on all points... someone who has some sense in their head. the common is always far too rare, sadly.
and people like to think this stuff stops hacking and cheating when that's never been the case. it's like denuvo, it delays but does not actually prevent anything. and people who support this stuff just want devs to keep escalating the arms race.
which only further increases your vulnerability when this stuff is on your pc because hackers view it as a challenge and it only ever serves to improve their skills and knowledge.
oh, and i bet From also throws up that "fair play" message when you try playing co-op in this game like they did in elden AND have the same hidden invasion timer elden had too thus invalidating any claim of "fair play" by literally designing the game with griefing being an intentional part of the games design right from the start.
so, not only do you have hackers and cheaters in the pc version, the game itself is designed to incentivize griefing by the devs themselves.
yes, that is 100% "FAIR PLAY"!
Absolutely insane how much these people are willing to sacrifice for their entertainment and be complete hypocrites about it.
except tiktok is beholden to the ccp by law in china. which is the whole point of the push for divestment here in the US. if they can't force them to cut ties with the ccp, tiktok should not be allowed in the US as it's a propaganda platform that works for (again, per chinese laws) the ccp.
and then you also have people doubling down on their communism by going from tiktok to that little red book app. like, we get it, you're a communist and a fan of chairman mao. just admit you're not actually an american already.
