I can already hear the tears of rage and cried of betrayal from the "Git Gud" kiddies and the sheer thought of a co-op only Souls game with no invasions. "That's not the way Soulslikes are supposed to be!" cry the gatekeepers. What happened to respecting the developer's intentions?
The Souls community has the hypocritical habit of trying to voraciously gatekeep what a Souls game can be, within a very narrow framework. When people ask about co-op or difficulty levels they should those posters down with "git guds" and "respect the developer's intentions!"
Yet when Code Vein came out and introduced NPC henchmen as a core mechanic, they raged and rebuked, filling the forum with questions on how to shut off the core gameplay mechanic. Because, as we all know, that's "how you respect the developer's intentions."
When SteelRising came out with assist mode options, they attacked it saying that Souls game's can't have difficulty levels. I suppose this is also respecting the creative design intentions of the developers. When Elden Ring introduced open world, skipable bosses, and summons, even Fromsoft was not free from their criticisms.
Nevermind the fact that both of the aforementioned soulslikes actually know how to tell a proper story.
And don't get me started on the community response to the Elden Ring co-op mod.
To FromSoft I say, bravo and well done. I wouldn't be surprised if this had anything to do with the popularity of Elden Ring's griefer-free coop mod. Consider it pre-ordered.
I call Millicent.
You're proving a hilarious point with this rant and it's so painfully ironic and cringey that it took me a moment to figure out what to say.
This game can be played offline and solo. It's described as a "light" RPG, which COOP chads or solo strutters do not want, and is the literal opposite of the direction the mega-successful hit they're copying Elden Ring took. No character builds was also a reason a lot of soulsborne fans diliked From's best (to this date) game, Sekiro.
There are a lot of valid criticisms to levy here, but you haven't hit a single one. And I almost guarantee this game isn't directed by or developed by the core teams.
This has nothing to do with the coop, though we've no reason to expect they won't fumble their archaic online systems already. We already know, for example, you will have the same barebones communication tools as the actual games and who knows if the netcode and matchmaking will be any better.
It has nothing to do with coop existing and all the whining you're whining about was from the loud minority that people promptly ignored. But way to highlight you have no clue what you're talking about, chad.
Reaaaaally ironic.

Fromsoft is experimenting with new combat network for PvE(and PvP??) that may possibly lay the groundwork for future souls games, I love all the souls games but I hate their network and even still i love to PvP any time I get, hell I even open my world for invasions.
Hopefully this game will be successful, i hope they do not mess up the control scheme on this new game.
So your opinion is objectibe one here, get it. Anyway, i won't continue this argument too, that's just meaningless. Invaders will invade anyway, not to mention they will still get all this hate. I was a lil bit amused by your references to "toxicity", had some fun reading this. Hope you will have a nice day
Thanks for this. It sounds like a multiplayer roguelike-ish which sounds interesting to me. In not a fan of pre made characters but who knows, could be okay. I'll wait for more details. Probably won't buy day 1 but the multiplayer element of these games is unmatched on opening weekend...
It's playable offline and singleplayer so I assume that's what everyone is going to do unless they've remade their multiplayer systems and UI in a way FromSoftware has never ever done before. Even in games with dedicated MP like Armored Core, they've rivaled the incompetence of Nintendo.
Unless it's a completely different team making this it won't be a very successful multiplayer game, lol.
No he's not wrong most invaders use whatever weapon the top youtubers say is 'broken' during the current patch cycle... this isn't new... it's been this way since invasions were introduced back in demon souls.
I played hundreds of hours with usually at least 2 other friends, so I have been invaded a lot. I didn't say every invader is like that, sometimes I have really enjoyable fights with them, but most of the time they're just an annoyance to me when I'm trying to get somewhere, regardless of whether I win or lose. I get it's a game mechanic, but it's nice to have 1 game where I don't have to worry about invaders when I step away.
Absolutely. Almost every invader had a some kind of katana in ER early days.
Not saying invasions are perfect. But that's really unique experience and i am very skeptical about next FS game where it's gonna be removed. Many games have online, not many games are able to do it alluring and memorable. FS did
