Report a translation problem
Well, except the eigoMANGA, but failure to comment leaves me thinking the answer is more likely "no" than otherwise.
Seems unknown for sure.
1- Keep it free.
2- Receive money from the OTHER GUY, so the other guy can charge for that free thing.
I dont think SUGE9 were gonna leave Eigomanga to make money from his work for nothing. And this steam release has been announced since a year ago.
Even if this result to be a success, maybe, MAYBE, it could make SUGE9 to work again on the game. But Im speculating.
I'm not paying for a translation job though. I never cared to have a translation. I literally don't need one. I just want to throw my money at Sugeno. If I don't know the money I'm thorwing out there is arriving at the place I'd like it to, then I'm not going to throw my money out there.

I feel like warez on steam store. /rant
...
Or dead.
This English version is not new, it has been for sale since 2010 or so. While paying for a localization/"translation patch" for a freeware game sounds unconfortable (or even shady for some), it is not so bad. The game is nice, it's well known in the Western world, so it sounds fair to me that both Sugeno and eigoMANGA gets compensated by their work. And the price ($5, and now much less since it's on the Sales Madness Palace known as Steam) is fair too.
A lot of commercial games are based on engines like 2D Fighter Maker. I guess there is a clause somewhere allowing you to debrand it if you buy a commercial license or something (we don't have a way to prove this, but it's unlikely that Enterbrain is going to sue eigoMANGA at this stage, it would be a PR hell for both)
There is room for improvement, though: eigoMANGA needs to improve a lot their marketing/PR practices (remember the Groupees incident with VP regarding the DRM-free version they refused to provide... at the last minute!?)
Though, how do we know this is a licensed localization?
I'm not trying to say anything about you by the way. It's just that an "as far as I know" isn't exactly super solid information. I just need to know that the revenue *is* split, not how it is split.
You're right that $5 isn't much, but I'm not interested in buying a translation, and it was never about the price, I'm simply interested in paying the dev for his work that I've enjoyed so much in the past (and continue to enjoy really). This seems like it *might* be an avenue to do so, but I've gotten no really solid informtion as it is.
I'm quite serious. It's not about the price. If I do find out he's getting something out of this, I'm fully prepared to purchase multiple copies and just shove them onto my friends (whether they like it or not).
It's not that I'd have to pay for a translation patch that I find off-putting. I really don't find it off-putting. It's just that I don't find I need a translation at all, so paying for something I don't need and never really wanted doesn't seem like something I should do. While I don't need to pay for the game either, I do derive entertainment from the game itself, and I feel that's worth something, whereas the translation does nothing for me.
If someone else feels that they do need the translation, then by all means, buy it. It's a great game and it's not like eigoMANGA doesn't have the rights for it (otherwise this would've been shut down some time ago I imagine). It's just a *translation* isn't a product I'm personally am interested in buying. Although a censored version of a game is something I'd be downright opposed to buying (as from other retailers) but the Steam version isn't censored since we have the "DLC".
Though... I'd probably end up playing version 1.08 more just so I can have the Saki animation even if I did buy it. Apparently that was removed for some technical reasons? (Not that I know what those reasons are, nor have I heard that officially, but that's what I've heard, and I see no other reason to remove it otherwise.)
Anyway, point is: I'm looking to throw my money away, but I want to throw it into the correct recepticle.
