The store page not surprisingly withholds that disclosure. I think the argument could be made that calling it a 20th Anniversary Edition is a bit misleading, epecially by not noting something like "Voice work recorded by an all-new cast."
Although the sound quality is a bit low by modern standards, I'm almost %100 certain that someone will mod the original voices into this.
I was thinking along that exact same line as I wrote my post. It would be cool if the new developers structured the game in such a way to facilitate such a mod. But if it deviates significantly from the original, it may be challenging to implement, especially with new content being added. Time will tell.
I keep hearing great things about GK series, but it was a few years before my PC gamer period started.
this is the remake of the first game
You should really put that on the store page. A lot of people will be angry if they buy this game and don't end up with the best thing about the original game.
You could mod this, but with the extra content promised I'm sure it will have silent passages.
Btw, I played the game without the voice acting so I'm not dissapointed by it.I'm just interested in replaying the game I loved so many years ago.
It wouldnt hurt to add it to the store page though.

"Unfortunately the original recordings were lost and stripping the audio from the game did not result in acceptable quality. Because of this, rerecording was a necessity. The original actors are twenty years older—even if they were interested in reprising their roles, they probably wouldn’t sound like they did “back then”—and the cost of getting some of those actors wasn’t practical for the budget of this project. Recasting was our only option.
We turned to Bay Area Sound, a studio that does voice recording for a ton of adventure games including Telltale’s The Walking Dead, Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island as well as Jane’s game Moebius. (In other words, this isn’t their first time working on a reboot of a classic adventure series!) They helped us cast great actors true to the spirit of the original cast. The voices have already been recorded and Jane’s very happy with the results. We’ll reveal more details about the cast as the mid-2014 release approaches."
no sale. sorry.
maybe when its $2 or so.
I understand the why and its a shame.
ps- glad to see the work got to a local (for me) company. The Walking Dead seems to have a few Nor-Cal references... the Heiro and Tahoe t-shirts really clued me in ;)
P.S. Jim Cummings is my favourite voice actor.
