gabrie knight voice cast
I am going to do a review for the whole game when Im done but I wanted to talk about the voice work in the remake since it seems to be a hot topic in this forum as well as others

I am about to say something that most seem to disagree on but the voice work in the remake is just as good if not better in almost ever case.

lets get the biggest Va out of the way first mr. gabriel knight himself. I love tim curry, you love tim curry he is a great actor and a good VA person ( I loved him in Wing commander 3) but his gabriel was so over the top it was ridiculous, plus he slid into and out of the accent so regularly it was jarring. Now the new VA to me is better, I feel like a lot of the hate comes in bc of nostalgia and bc of what he sounds like on the first day of the game. the actor at first does start off very shaky, but by day three has slipped into the character pretty great and never goes as hammy as tim did. just my opinion.

Mosley- Both Mark Hamil and the new guy do a fine job I think it is pretty even

Grace- here is one of the 2 examples where I think the original voice work by Leah Remini was better, bc she has had decades of playing the sarcastic and quick witted gf/wife/secretary. The new VA once again does a fine job but never quite captures grace.

Dr john- once again I think it is even both do a fine job. my only problem is the dialogue with the character, bc it is a little over the top.

Wolfgang Ritter-now this is one main example where the original far outweighs the new VA. The new Va for this character comes across so campy and over the top its ridiculous.

I think the rest of the cast are all very good in the remake, the only other character that is bad is a small side character, the boy who is dancing in jackson square has a voice that does not match the character at all.

anyways just my thoughts what do yall think?

I enjoyed Mark Hamill's Mosley much more than I did the new actor's. I do agree about Leah Remini being a much better Grace though.

You're on crack. Hamil as Mosley and Tim Curry as Gabriel and whoever was the original narrator MADE this game. It is a terrible disappointment that they didn't reuse the original audio tracks.

I read something on wired about how they "coudln't afford them" and they wouldn't "sound the same 20 years older." What the hell just use the same audio. Almost all the lines are the same anyway.

I think you are wrong. curry southern accent was terrible I am a southern and it sounded so fake, as far as your question the original audio was so damaged and old it couldnt be used

I guess you've always got your right to be wrong. There is nothing wrong with the original audio, could have been taken right off one of the original game CDs like the one sitting on my bookshelf.

lol no it couldnt its not like ripping an mp3 these recordings were made yrs ago you must be like 15

here is a direct quote from the devs

"Unfortunately the original recordings were lost and stripping the audio from the game did not result in acceptable quality. Because of this, rerecording was a necessity. The original actors are twenty years older—even if they were interested in reprising their roles, they probably wouldn’t sound like they did “back then”—and the cost of getting some of those actors wasn’t practical for the budget of this project. Recasting was our only option.

Mark Hamill probably has too much on his hands now, 3 episodes each on Star Wars and Star Citizen, but he still should be in this game.

The actress who vocied Grace in the original stole the show. However, your reasoning for this is nonsensical. She did not have decades of playing wife/secretery as this was 1993 and Remini was only in her early 20s.

Unfortunately the Grace Nakamura in the first game is very different to the Grace in the 2nd game who is unintentionally a very dislikable character, not helped by a lazy actress who did zero research for her role.

I don't really get the point of asking people their opinions and then insulting them.

For myself I've struggled with a lot of things about the remake. The voice actor for Gabriel in particular I found unbearable the first time I fired it up. I ended up walking away for quite a bit. But having come back with Tim Curry's Gabriel a little further out of my memory I'm now inclined to be a little more generous to his replacement. It's not the best performance ever but I've heard far worse. In general I think I'd score the original voice work higher just for it's consistency. Yeah TC overplays Gabriel a bit, but the voice work all comes together to form a whole cloth (bar possibly the fortune teller in the park, I remember that one really bothering me). The remake by and large has solid performances, but the one or two jarring exceptions I find really hard to understand making it in. Back in the day they had one shot with expensive voice actors in an industry known for slightly camp/OTT performances. The whole point of the remake was to make a definitive version that did things right. I find it difficult to then square that someone sat in the sound editing booth and then said; "Yeah, that nailed it.". Especially with performances like the one you've already highlighted with Wolfgang.

Also this;

I loved the original snarky Grace. The new one just falls a bit flat for me.

People like Mark Hamill are famous so it stands for a reason that people would be biased towards his voice acting.

VO in remake's ok IMO, tough guy playing Gabriel's trying way too much to be Tim Curry, and considering that Tim's the emperor of overacting....

Tough farther the game I got, the more used I got to him. Either he got better as the VO recording got, or I just grew to accept him .

I agree with gabriel VO the first day or two he was very shakey but he really settled into the role nicely to me. The rest of the cast all were great except for his uncle, but he has just a minor role. I thought the VA who played the the new dr john did a better job of playing an even villain. in the original game it was very obvious that he was a bad guy.

The music is way too loud at the police building by far

I disagree about remini, she has basically played the same role her entire career as the snarky quick witted foil to men. you forgot she was in one season of saved by the bell where she constantly got the best of zack morris

Great game. Voice and music got better throughout....
Lots of bugs, the head spinning was my favorite.
