Black Out Screen on Launch

Title says everything you need to know, when I launch populous: Undiscovered worlds, it generally crashes and doesn't even start, often having a small dialogue box that also is blacked out near the upper left hand corner.

Is there any patch or something I need to nab in order to get it working on this Windows 11 rig here?

I'm having the same issue. The start page loads, and then asks me if I want to complete the tutorial first. When I click the tutorial, it all goes black and then Steam acct shows I am not even playing the game. So confusing.

Neither the base game or the Undiscovered Worlds will load for me.... same issue of black screen with smaller box in upper left also black... Any solutions?

Same here, neither games load correctly. Couple quick shuttering black screens, then nothing happens. It throws me back to the desktop. Game shuts completely. Please anyone share solution if you got it to work for you after encountering similar problem. Thanks in advance!

I was having the same issue, first i verified integrity of files(there were no corrupt files)
then iended steam in task manager.

when i came back to start the game it worked. Maybe Hard close steam.

I've figured it out how to launch, there will be resolution problems. Right click in library go to properties. Go to installed files. Go to browse. Click on popTB and popTBUW to launch (not)(D3DpopTB) or (D3DpopTBUW). You can of course create shortcuts by right clicking the files etc.

I've figured it out how to launch, there will be resolution problems. Right click in library go to properties. Go to installed files. Go to browse. Click on popTB and popTBUW to launch (not)(D3DpopTB) or (D3DpopTBUW). You can of course create shortcuts by right clicking the files etc.

i just had a simular problem and found a fix for it!

my problem was, when starting the game a popup came up saying "loading" then the screen goes black and then it closes, and the game never boots up

FIX:
go to the files and right click popTB, go to properties and then go to compatibility, click "run this program in compatibility mode for" then choose windows XP {service pack 2}

then click reduced colour mode and choose 8 or 16 bit

I have had more success with dgvoodoo2, and setting the resolution on the dgvoodoo2 control panel to my native screen res. Within the game it's set to 800x600.
