I am at 250 deaths and i stopt playing this game.
I am totally with you oliver.malina
Good for thos who kann do it and don´t find it difficult. Thumbs up!!!
The Ginso escape sequence is a lot easier than you think it is, the water speed depends how fast you climb. You need to make good use of your bashes and not panic. If you can keep calm you will find this section quite easy.
I agree. I am an older gamer with creaky fingers, and it took me a while as I was panicking - once I realised you have a set amount of time it was still challenging but OK - when I got through it I was punching the air so it was worth persevering.
I'll never be brilliant at this sort of game, but it has been really rewarding so far and I can't wait to see the rest of the game through
Also an older (62) gamer prone to arthritis and haven't played anything nearly this difficult in years. Playing on easy in Definitive Edition, I am now at Mount Horu. I have respawned 2391 times. Easy mode in DE does autosave halfway through the escapes from Ginso and Forlorn Ruins or it would be much higher and I might have given up.
I have a map stone key I failed to use and an extra gate key. I went around one gate by redirecting a shot from a frog up through an obstruction that was really intended to stomp from above. I did not do a lot of the side quests to get the special items. I would usually try a few times and then continue forward if I didn't succeed.
I only have capacity for 4 energy cells and 5 life cells and I have them topped off. I use the "save again" option a lot to top off. I save, which costs an energy cell and then go hunting for crystals or enemies I can kill without damage sometimes. If I do enough to earn some progress toward an ability or get life or energy cells restored, I hustle back to my save spot and save again, which costs nothing but saves with whatever increases I have managed. One reason I have so many respawns is that if I take damage while doing this, I go ahead and die, jumping into thorns or whatever.
For a player like myself, it is very hard. Sometimes I have to stop because my ring finger or pinky stops being fully operational (arthritis). But I can still do it. Other than the auto save spots in escapes, watching a walkthrough video it looks almost as difficult most of the time, though I survive more hits than the person doing the video does in an advanced mode and a couple of times when there were really tricky obstacles they were easier. But most game action lines up exactly in environment, pace and number of enemies.
But like no other game Ori challenged me to never give up and never made it too frustrating. The level design is very nice and failure is very clear. So that led me to "ok, one more try", because I could clearly see what obstacle I didn't mastered yet. And also because of the great soundtrack and atmosphere. It has some elements of Escape Goat 1+2 and some of Super Meat Boy, but it is not *that* hard as Super Meat Boy. Really not. Because on SMB I gave up at the first really challenging frustrating levels.
At the first really challenging moments in Ori I was like "Are you kidding me?", but than this always resolved into a "this could be a possible way" and in curiosity to give it "one more try". I really applaud the developers for this and the level design.
I died 738 times. 238 times in the two last parts. xD But it was worth it. In love with this game.
By the way, the save system with "E" (Soul link) really complements this game. Save often. You will always find enough energy shards. If you get stuck think of a hard part as just a small difficult puzzle. And always try and try again.
PS:
Definitely play with MOUSE and Keyboard. Do not even try only with a laptop touchpad. And later in on part where you need to press "Shift" for sailing down in the air..., remember that really most keyboard layouts also have a Shift key on the right. Not only on the left. That helped me a lot.
And you might want to try the "Definite Edition" which is just a very little more streamlined and a tiny bit easier (featuring choice of difficulty also). But I played and completed this original version first.
It's just hard not to take damage in this game, mostly against enemies but also to some blind jumps with spikes at the bottom that deal a lot of damage. And there are some tough escape sequences too which pretty much require trial and error to figure them out.
Nope... there are some areas which are reallllly stingy with crystals (khem misty woods khem). So if you don't know what's coming you really have to defer saving as far as possible, anticipating a possible stingy area.
Spare me the "it only took me two tries!" responses. I am aware that there are people who for some mysterious reason thrive off of games that require self-torture to play. I'm not that fond of platformers as a rule but I do play some... if the learning curve is reasonable. But in any game I like to have some time to adapt to the controls and it's also nice if there's a specific way to make a move happen outside of sheer dumb luck and dogged persistence at doing who knows what until the thing happens.
How in this reality can this be considered fun? Jump, miss, jump, miss, fireball, spike bush, jump, miss, fireball, death. Are we having fun yet?
I wanted to play this because it's a pleasant game in many ways but the gameplay ruins it completely. Like the real world doesn't provide enough chances to try and fail over and over, I should play a video game for the same experience?
I'll never be able to understand people like you. You failed 50 times - because of ♥♥♥♥ game design decisions - and you're happy about it. Unreal.
If you find yourself to get frustrated - take a break. Seriously, go and do something else, if the game gets to your nerves. For some people couple days are fine, for some few weeks. Just remember, if you die, you did not fail, you are just learning the patterns and paths. If you keep determined, you will get thru this game.
For short: If you like challenge and challenge yourself, this is a game for you. If not, you might pass this one.
Wow I am sorry to say but this game isn't THAT hard. I will say it is flawed and I'd say just skip to the sequel. It's better in every way. But I wouldn't call it a bad game. I personally didn't die that often and I'm not the best gamer either.
