You mean the spirit wells? Those are save-and-refill stations. You can use them to save your game, and they fully refill your health and energy bar.

If you mean the soul links (that you drop to save your game), they serve as your respawn points. You can only have one up at any time, if you make a second one, the one you dropped before is removed.

so if i want to go back to the starting area i have to run all the way there ? there is no teleport like in dark souls where you can jump from one fire to all the others you found ?

there is not an official one, but there is a thread in this forum called something like "fix glitch saves" that has a tool you can use to teleport.

No, there is no teleport. If you want to go back to the starting area, Ori has to walk there. That little spirit is really agile and can do a lot - but teleports are outside its capabilities.

That said, especially once you have Bash you can move around very quickly. If you need to gather a few items, take a look at the map first, and plan your route. It's part of the game, and you'll be surprised how fast you were.

As thesidxxx said, you can use a tool to enable debug mode and then just place your character wherever, but you're acting outside the game then. Though I would suggest, with a game that takes a mere 2 hours if you speedrun it (with world record currently being 46 minutes), try to immerse yourself in it and use canon ways to travel. It's quite a short game, all things considered, so wring those few extra minutes out of it if you have the chance. ;)

Yeah, the tool is really more for game-ending glitches, or getting back into areas that seal after you beat them (e.g. Ginso Tree), but it can do more than that.

I have a really strong feeling that the Spirit Wells originally served as portals for endgame quick travel in an earlier version of the game, because in addition to the game hinting that they are connected, the steam achivement has a typo and calls them Spirit Portals instead of Spirit Wells. Their locations around the world seem to be placed in a way that Quick Travel would make sense.

But no, they are not quick travel locations. They do refill your vitility and energy, and serve as save locations even if you have no energy to save.
