Also, even if I unplug the XBox controller and restart the game, I get the main menu cycling as if someone is holding down the up/down arrow buttons (can't tell which, all the menu items flicker with the selection graphic)
He advised me to send an email about the problem to feedback@moongamestudios.com. Perhaps you could do the same, and we'll get this bug squashed!
The issue does persist for me as well when i unplug it when the game is still running, restarting the game afterwards fixes it.
I've been emailing the devs back and forth regarding the issue. This is a quote from their last email to me:
"I installed W10 myself and eventually got the bug to happen. Apparently the controller model influences the bug, it only happens for me when using an Xbox One controller, the game worked fine with a 360 controller."
This is good news. They were able to replicate the bug. Later in the email, they stated this:
"I will be trying some more things to debug the issue today, and will let you know if I make some progress or if i come up with more questions."
This is also good news. They are working on it for us.
Hey all. Sofie from the Ori team sent me an email with specific instructions on how to fix it. Following these instructions fixed the bug for me. Hopefully, it'll fix it for you too.
Here is the word for word email that I got from Sofie over at Moon Studios.
"Thanks for your response. After a bit of trying, I found that I fixed the bug on my end by installing the controller driver manually (in a very specific way, which I will list out). You mentioned you tried this yourself, but that that didn't do the trick - the method I found was quite specific though. I'll link you the page where I got it from.
Note that the controller should vibrate when you plug it in. I read this somewhere on the MS site, the controller should vibrate when plugging in to let you know it's working properly. I'm guessing it didn't vibrate for you before?
Controller driver:
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controller-pc-compatibility
Here's what I found would do the trick:
- Have the Xbox One controller plugged in
- Startup the installer .msi
- Deinstall (remove) the current driver, if the installer gives you that option. Afterwards, restart the installer
- Install the driver (keep controller plugged in)
- When the driver is installed, you might notice that the controller still doesn't work
- Unplug and replug your Xbox One controller, it should vibrate
After this, Ori works consistently for me. When removing the driver and leaving it to automatically install, it breaks again. "
That's it. I have already sent her a thank you via email. If this fix worked for you as well, Let her know that we appreciate the fix by sending a thank you note to feedback@moongamestudios.com. All evidence suggests that she worked a good deal to help me out, knowing that she probably wouldn't get anything in return.
I hope this helps us all out.
Game on.
