Naru's previous child?
If you look at the rock Ori was sleeping on in Naru's cave, there's a cave painting of Ori, Naru and what seems to be a smaller Naru with big ears. Did Naru's previous child die??

As for the flash at the end of the game... the early flash that kills Kuro is from Sein re-connecting with the tree, and the 'wave' that puts out the fire is probably either a wave of extreme wind or water - I'd hazard a guess and say it's water
That is a really interesting idea, and it gives me another crazy idea: The Ginso tree - their main source of water - is full of portals (maybe that's how they got water for the wave). In fact I think it's heart could actually be portal too, one that leads to a bottom of some lake.

I always thought what put out the fire was the Ginso Tree's rain and the Forlorn Ruin's wind...

Also what the Spirit Tree and Sein do at the end of the game looks a lot like the Light Ceremony, and it puts out all the fires and makes everything grow.

I actually thought the Light Ceremony was more of a spectacle than the event at the end. It could just have been a flaw in how it was portrayed that made it seem more low key, but the fact that Kuro survives the Light Ceremony but not the event at the end (it really needs a name) has always bothered me. It just seems like Kuro died because Kuro had to die.

It's definitely not wind. Wind usually doesn't look like a force field, and it never puts out fires bigger than a candle :)

The wave could be water propelled by wind :)
Oh god, how far have we gone ever since the Naru's Child topic :/

OMG, someone finally noticed the drawing on the rock. But I also wonder if there are more Naru species around.

And thank you all, guys, for the explanations on Light Ceremony and other!
My first language is not English and I already can't follow the conversation, too many theory, reasoning and reading LOL
Finished up my screenshot of all text playthru. Would everyone here be cool if I include information from this topic to start a guide covering some of the lore, backstory, fan theories, etc that we've found so far?

Also, if anyone needs me to upload select screenshots (not all) I believe I have:
*1]All lines of narration (49 total, 21 which were in the Prologue), including the optional one about Kuro still hunting the light while you are traversing from Thornfelt Marsh to Misty Woods.
*2]All Sein dialogue (text boxes), including the optional Valley of Wind one if you take the left hand path to the Valley instead of the right path that leads to the rock.
3]All you gained an ability text boxes
4]First time pickup of items text boxes (Life Shard, Energy Cell, Ability cells, etc.)
5]Only have some of the ingame tooltips like hold down and press a to pass through platforms. I think I missed the one on how to do the Charge Jump from a wall.
6]I THINK I got pictures of all the Gumon sneaking about the foreground, but may have missed some? [partial organize]
7]All Ancestral Tree dialogue (including confirmation the main game takes place "many years" after the Light Ceremony).
8]All signposts which tell you which way to go for which area. Just incase anyone wants to take a stab at figuring out if there is an actual written alphabet for Ori's world. Hey, Klonoa series and several FFs (offhand notably FF10 Zanarkand text, FF10 Al Bhed spoken language, and FF14 written language) had their own alphabets. The Klonoa Wii remake even used theirs during the end credits as instructions on how to unlock all the unlockables (although the unlock conditions were quite achievable by accident during a normal playthru).
* = Already Organized

As for me, sure, go for it. I've been thinking about doing something similar myself.

It just seems like Kuro died because Kuro had to die.

Kuro wasn't right in the heart of it for very long when she went to collect Sein. A few seconds, at best.

She WAS right in the thick of things when she put Sein back - and she had little time to move away, and once the light flared up presumably she couldn't even try.
For the curious, it seems Microsoft, not Moon Studios, owns the rights to the Ori IP.

EDIT: The first version of the Lore Guide is now posted as of Sept. 3, 2015 END EDIT

The Definitive Edition trailer has a peek of Naru's past

this is it guys :D
Ok guys so let me get this right (SPOILERS)
Naru loses her child in an accident maybe or dies well just because his life ended, then out of dispire she sits on the clif thinking about her lost child. suddenly the storm comes in and she has ori. Now ori is called by the spirit tree but does not respond.
the tragedy of the blind forest strats here but the whole problem was almost a mis understanding
a love of a father and both mothers.
problem is that iam thinking , ori was the last of his kind before kuro sved her child and the forest and every body lived happily ever after , but i keep thinking gummo's is the last of his kind
naru is also the last of her kind and kuro's child is also the last of his/her kind.

Then another question comes up in my mind why do the the nibel creature (Ori's kind)
have genders, arent they all from the spirit tree they are born from it.

Plus i think that there are four main races in the forest of nibel
naru's race, the gommon, ori's race and a race that lived in mount huro , isent it odd that there are aztic ruins in side a volcano.
BUT really this game is all i need!

I think they don't have gender, but their language can have grammatical gender. Also referencing a person using neutral grammatical gender is clumsy in english. "Her name was Reem, she was agile" just sounds better than "Its name was Reem, it was agile".
well i think that the gender is referd to thier names female or male
