"meh"
That's what I think... shouldn't take these awards seriously after all... I mean, best fighting game Mortal Kombat? Over Guilty Gear?
Come on... :steamfacepalm:
I mean...I played mgs5 myself and there is not music that stand out for me...I really don't understand why it's MGS5

Maybe just maybe they put license song in account? The music tape collection in MGS5 is good, I give it that. And after all, what's make Ori's OST so geart is that combine with the action sequence within the game, the jury maybe just listen to the OST and never play the game

Just my opinion anyway

Good answer! Yes, I´m sure they never played the game.
I guess we will never know the answer, well, I hope Ori get more exposure after the Award
old bump, but playing the game(MGS5) listening to soundtrack, and googled to see what talk there was. I haven't played Ori so im admittedly extremely biased on this, but what I think MGS5 did to a large degree, even if you ignore the original score(which lets be honest here guys, the Metal Gear Solid series has produced some of the coolest original orchestral tracks in video game history.) is represent a time period and serve to recreate the immersion/atmosphere of such a time in the same sense as Rockstar did for Vice City. For the same reasons is why I consider Vice City to have hands down the best soundtrack of any GTA game, i mean maybe i'm just an 80's nerd, but the point that it serves as a medium for the art to express the time period its trying to recreate still stands over something contemporary like GTA 4/5 for example which no matter how well they attempt will always appear skewed to the viewer as...well we live in the today times, and we know for a fact radio stations don't play the same songs/"OH theres a way better artist they could have picked" etc etc 900 other psychological things that pop up and prevent the medium of the soundtrack of such games from delivering a full "emotional" impact in comparison to the rose tinted acceptance of nostalgia.

In short, why I think MGS5 over anything at all last year deserved the award was because like Easy Rider in the movie biz before it, this might be the one of the first, really really good pieces of media, that also has a meaningful sound track of real artists/music. In Easy Rider the time period express was arguably contemporary but it was also a extremely specific fringe lifestyle of the time, unlike GTA which attempts to recreate a living breathing world in replica in the form of a miniature city.

Original scores are great, I love em', but there's just something...perhaps higher grade about rooting a form of art within the context of other relevant, "real world", pieces of art that don't just exist in one self contained medium. Video game sound tracks are often good, but also often throughout history simulacrums of real songs, cool but never the full thing right.

But hey for whats it worth, never heard of it before but I'm leaving this forum to go google Ori next on my Sunday, so hey who knows what I'll think after trying it out :D

Ori had the best soundtrack of any game released in 2015. Awards don't mean anything, the "winner" is the one that paid the most.
the worst case i see its the bafta award wicth the game ''her story'' in my opinion that definetly not a game
Well, to be fair, many of the tracks are versions of the main theme with alterations. As much as I like the music, I wouldn't have given it the win either. Personally, I think Undertale won on the music score.

That's a good thing though.

Not to go complete "ORI FANBOY MODE" on you because everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion of course, but the many different versions of Ori's several "main" themes appearing consistently in its soundtracks is what brings it alive.

A more upbeat, happier version of Ori's main theme playing as you escape the Ginso Tree made it the most memorable videogame sequence I've ever played and was a brilliant soundtrack decision by its composer Gareth Coker.

All of those are good so it was always going to be a tough competition.

Don't worry about it.
