Meaningful names in Ori and the Blind Forest
I was just browsing the TV tropes article[tvtropes.org] for this game, and I happened upon something rather interesting.

"Ori" is Hebrew language, and translates to "my light". How fitting is that? ^^

"Kuro" is Japanese for "black". Well, she is a gigantic black owl.

"Gumo" is also Japanese for "spider". Fits his appearance and the way he moves quite well.

I'm not quite sure if "Sein" is meant to translate to anything, but when I looked it up in Google, I came up with several translations in German: "Sein" can mean "His", "being", "existence", "essence", or "suchness". That's actually pretty close, considering Sein's 'essence' is as the eyes of the Spirit Tree.

As for "Naru"... the immediate response was Japanese translations,[www.kanjijapanese.com] no surprise there. Among them are: "to be of use", "to reach to", "to change", "to echo" and more.

"Horu", as in "Mount Horu", translated as: "to carve/chisel/sculpt/engrave" and "to dig/excavate".

I don't know much about translation software, but I know sometimes it's outright wrong, so I'm doing more guesswork than anything on those last few. I couldn't find anything for "Ginso" as in "Ginso Tree", either -- just "Ginsu".

What do you folks think? If anyone can shed some light on some of the names we're given for the places and characters in this memorable story, I would greatly appreciate it. ^^ I absolutely love digging deeply into things like this!

(Please forgive me if this kind of post has already been made. I'm just a little bit too lazy to look through all the forum posts here right now.)

Yes, it's been posted time to time, but you're right, it's fitting as hell, Ori is sooooo good of a name for this game :P

Yes, it was obvious they took the names from various languages, japanese particularly... but I didn't know Ori was hebrew for "my light"... interesting.

And I thought the name "Sein" is just the german translation of the english name. The meaning of "Sein" is correct by the way.
