Ori and the Blind Forest is gonna have that "wow" effect on you by it's mechanics and it's environment but not really by it's difficulty (which it has sometimes)
Hope i made myself clear enough x)
Reasons for this?
- In Blind Forest environment kills Ori faster while in WotW you can tank through obstacles on Normal with relative ease.
- Almost no insta-death hazards in WotW while a lot in BF.
- Escapes are way easier in WotW. They are more "bark than bite" - looking graphical, rarely challenging.
- Self-healing ability in WotW makes things a way easier.
- Automatic save system in WotW. Some people claim it even teleported Ori past the obstacle that killed them.
For my taste WotW made to be a bit of a sandbox - you need to tune balance by yourself to your liking.I went into this expecting something casual and relaxing so I can actually enjoy the art style and music, but honestly I find myself getting frustrated more than anything. A lot of the platforming and hazards happen in such an instant I hardly even knew what killed me until after it happend.
It very much feels like when the game was made it was capitalising on the "Dark Souls Platformer" trend of "Beautiful, engaging story and environment contrasted by a challenging, and tedious level of difficulty."
Sometimes I'll save with 1 health, die, and respawn with full, just to die again and have that 1 health I had previously.
One thing that's really come to frustrate me are mobs respawning similar to that of old NES games where if you go off screen enemies reappear. I've had it happen multiple times and it's really unpleasant when it does happen.
TL;DR, the game has a feel that it was made by creative artists rather than genuine game designers because there's a lot of times where I've scratched my head questioning why something was done a certain way over and over again.
