can't pass the tutorial

Hello,

Playing on ps5, launched a campaign. Complete beginner here.
After training field i have to visit a village chief. That village chief asks me to look for a wandering doctor that might have been kidnapped and after taking the quest 3 raiders groups appears.
The problem is I am limited apparently to 6 recruits from that village, and they get UTTERLY deestroyed in a matter of a few seconds from any single one of those group. It's like a 2vs1 overall for them, and my cavalry gets trashed like crazy. Then i end up having like 10 guys rushing me to gang on me. If i try to recruit more troops elsewhere it tells me no it's utorial so everything is disabled.
Is that seriously a tutorial ?
Isn't my cavalry supposed to charge instead of waiting for enemy to come and attack too ?
In any case i can handle a 1vs1 ok, but 10 guys on me and my army getting ravaged in 2.5 sec feels boring and uninteresting.

I have to say, for a new player this game is insanely poorly explained. Good thing lot of tutorials and guides from the community exist at least, but I was hoping for a progressive learning, like a step after step tutorial and not go be utterly ravaged for 20 hours before you can get out of tutorial.

Any advice ? up to date tutorial on campaign begining for full release don't seem to exist yet and the full version seem to have change many things from older tuto.

yeah, haven't found a battle command for controller on console yet but i seem to need that if that's the reason why cavalry just defend. wouldn't have guessed defending would make them useless too.
I will try to spamm a save before a fight and try to figure out the keys for battle commands.

I will skip tutorial in fact you're right. A shame it's useless to people like me actually needing it :/

I only used the basic command the tutorial teaches you plowed through every encounter. Note, I'm playing one difficulty below normal

You do not have a tutorial problem. You have a git-gud problem. And skipping the tutorial only defers the problem, because if you can't handle those tutorial guys, sea raiders and the like will kick your ass.

Default stance isn't so much defensive mode but rather just stand and wait to be attacked mode. The real defensive formation, especially with shield welding troops, is shield wall.

There should be blue UI tutorial popups during the tutorial that help with formation commands among other things. One combat related one in your first skirmish trying to hunt down 3 bandit parties (F1 for movement commands then F3 for charge on PC) and a final one during the Bandit camp raid (F1 for troop movement commands then F2 for follow me). I'm guessing for consoles there is equivalent tooltips with the equivalent commands, but that's just a guess.

Look in the settings/binding for controls. On pc you need to use the F keys & numbers to give orders to your troops.
No clues on a console though, this is one of those games that are made for pc,
I'd never buy this game on a console. The 1st one was awesome and lasted ONLY because of the mods.

Skipping the tuto entirely solved it for me, and since I learned battle formation (at least the very basic ones for now) it's indeed much better. I probably would handle tuto fine now if i had to. I guess defensive formation would have worked if i had archers but for the cavalry this was terrible XD.

Also, greatswords are almost non existent early game ? Feels hard to find anything to buy on this, and since forge has a weird mobile game system (I loath any stamina wait in game time to regen ability to play the game systems, hopefully they change this or I will just loot or buy what i need no problem.

Also if i understoof correctly my troops get their equipment automatically right ? Only stuffing my companions and myself ?

Anyway at least i have the rough bases now, i guess it will be hundred of hours until i understand 10% of all this :')
