Was there a "Sound". Yes vague I know.
One-Handers do do damage, but I expect that is not how the game envisions them (as the damage dealer). It seems to me 1 handers are designed for shield use, and time consuming mini duels in the field. Or fighting up stairs, or Having a weapon in hand, AND a shield to block the AI shooting you from the wall etc.
2 handers with slice, or weapons capitalizing on the speed mechanic work best. Bows are a close second, and you probably get more kills with a bow, due to their superior advantage in a siege. (where racking up 100-200 kills is not unheard of).
I ask about sound, because I feel this might be a graphical glitch (just guessing). I see this sometimes on my polearm or twohander, I swing, It looks like I hit, but they blocked it (or just as likely it hit the shield on that cavalry scrubs back and stopped my attack). This I feel should let me know it blocked, but it doesn't so I just assume it did. and I still hear the "thud" from the attack.
So if you hear a "sound" my guess would be it was blocked somehow.

Also, its as if the weapon just isn't connecting to them at all. I swing it looks like it hits, but I get nothing. I'd accept the occasional miss-hit as that was a thing - this is *constant*. It *never* connects with any of them, no matter how much I move, swing, etc.
This is now with 1h swords/axes, 2h sword/axes. Genuinely, the swing/cut mechanic is broken.
