MMOs released nowadays burn out before they ever really take off.
The most popular ones today are the same ones who were most popular 10 years ago, 20 years ago even. It's an unbreachable market with little to no innovation since the mid 2000s.
Add to the fact they need steady monetization to be sustainable, but this fanbase cries tears of blood over the mere mention of a DLC they don't even need to buy.
So nah. This is perfectly handled by the modding community.
