Workshops - better to be concentrated in rich cities rather than spread out?
I have 3 workshops in Epicrotea, and 3 in Diathma. Was suddenly given a lot of towns and I'm wondering whether I should spread out my efforts.

Realistically based on what I can tell its better to have them in a prosperous city rather than one that was recently trashed... Any thoughts?

I wouldn't bother if they work OK in the current towns. Chances are the new workshops you'd get instead are less profitable or the difference in profits is so small it would take years to even earn back the price of the new shop.
Not alot of towns are good for workshops. Dunglyanis or whatever its called in battania is one of the best towns to get workshops.. There are no good towns in sturgia for workshops.
Epicrotia isnt too bad, but there are better. Honestly not sure about others, I always use dunglyanis in battania for my workshop HQ, unless its been sacked.

One thing I will say is that because both woodshops and blacksmith produce the same good (tools) there is an overabundance of tools in the world so those workshops dont make any profit. ( Yet another issue I reported a long time ago still never fixed. )

Dont ever get a woodshop or blacksmith unless you want to take the time and money to shut down all other woodshops and blacksmiths around the world.

There is also an over abundance of hides because of multiple sources, so tanneries tend to have regular profit no matter where they are. Not the best profits, but steady profits.

There are a few breadbaskets that I use in some games. Northern Vlandia has a lot of good options, and it's pretty rare that it gets attacked. There's an area in the Western Empire - Ortysia/Lageta - that are great if you also have the surrounding castles. A lot of the Empire can be pretty decent for workshops that require minimal/no player involvement to make money.

Yeah, Lageta is recovering. I somehow acquired Cath Bannon, Lageta, Pen Cannoc, Rhotea and Amitatys. Amitatys is out of food as the Aserai keep burning their farm whilst I'm fighting Vlandia. Guess its best to keep workshops in towns that don't have their villages burned.

Pay attention to the bound villages. Some towns only have two, which makes it much harder to keep them stocked. If you can pick up the nearby castles, those villages will also trade with your towns, giving you more trade. Better for food and workshops.
Smithy in Epicrotea, Silversmith in Diathma, Tannery in Lageta, Velvet shop in Saneaopa, Myzea, and/or Syronea.

All of these routinely produce 300+ daily for me.

There are others in Aserai lands (Oil in Quyaz, Silver and Beer in Sanala, Tannery in Askar) but it sounds like you want to stay in Empire territory.

Prosperity has an effect on a workshop. Consumption of goods increase with more prosperity.

Good workshops are in cities with good food access for prosperity, the used product provided by villages and more expensive good like Velvet, Silver.

As examples that fits the criteria
Jaculan: 3 Olives - Oil press
Dunglanys: 2 Grapes - Wine Press + 2 Wheat - Brewery
Ortysia: 1 Silver - Jewellry

What works for me is I have 1 blacksmith, where I dump off "wrought iron" and iron whatever I have in excess because I'll often go around with roughly 50-75 tools. In case I run into a place that needs them, it is a good way to get renown and relationship points with a village. Past that, I look for towns with 5,000+ prosperity and that have at least walls level 2. My range of workshop profit is usually between 200-400 gold per shop per day.

Remember to watch for villages with trades for materials you want, such as I've been able to get 300 flax for 4 gold a piece, which I then put into a workshop for linen.

The workshops I dislike the most are wood-shop and brewery.

For putting multiple workshops into one town, as long as you do not plan to use the workshop space to store things, that'll work well.
