what does (armor) weight do?
i assume heavy armor & weapons will slow down your movement? will it also slow down your swings or aiming speed? or are there any other effects?

edit: title for clarification

I think the only effect is has is on your movement speed. The Athletics skill also helps to lessen that impact.
Unless there is a hidden debuff, I'm not aware of any combat penalties. It would be kind of interesting if they had, where the higher the strength the lesser the penalty is. That being said the only thing I know it's tied to is as stated above, your campaign movement speed.

Which you can get around by just having a bunch of pack animals. Otherwise you'd have to organise loot by weight/value.
It slows down movement but can be offset with the Athletics skill which also has a perk to reduce armour weight by 30%

I suppose it should be clarified that there are two types of weight. There is a party weight which limits your speed on the overland map, and a weight for individual characters which limits speed during a battle.

Party weight is listed at the top of the inventory screen, above the list of stuff you have. Horses meant for cargo improve this (horses for riding do so as well, just not as much), as does having more men. Too many animals will instead slow you down, as you get a Herding penalty. You can go over the limit, but the more you do, the slower you will be. This has no effect on combat speed, as you don't carry cargo into battle.

Character weight is listen on the bottom of the inventory screen, below the stuff you have equipped. There are perks to lessen the effect weight has on your combat speed. Riding a horse in battle is also a good idea if your armor weighs quite a lot. Character weight has no effect on overland travel speed, as normally people don't run around in armor all the time. You don't see it, but realistically you would only put on your armor before battle.

Affects your movement speed on foot, however any negative affect from weight is pretty much negated by athletics skill. Probably should be balanced better IMO. With max athlerics you become a kitemaster and that just isnt realistic.

It has the same effect as anything else you're carrying which is negligible. Carrying/wearing armor with a 20 weight has the same effect as carrying 2 pieces of food.

when you give your horse a heavy horse armor for 50,
the party have 50 less weight to carry.

i dont know if this works when you equip your mainchar with heavy shilds or armor...
someone could easy try this.
I believe weight affects acceleration more than top speed. Probably not really obvious on self but you can really tell on your mount with the heavier barding.

The top infantry units have higher athletics for this reason. Which is also how we know the Druz are actually mounted infantry, with the strongest athletics in the game i think.
