Banners - what do you prefer?
I've tended to use the plus 8 percent missile damage but I also have one banner that does plus 15% to hand to hand battle. That would be good if I have someone spearheading sieges.

Do these bonuses actually work? Just checking as I keep hearing things are not completely implemented. I see a bonus movement speed, then a bonus horse movement speed. Guessing the bonus movement speed is more important for all situations right?

jes, i mostly use the higher movement speed like you.
(for infantry +25% speed, its a "must have" cawse enemy mostly run away to a defend position and you have to walk all over the battlemap)

sometimes i use the + meele.dmg or lower enemy range dmg.
mostly the first half of the game, when you have limited options.
I do believe they do work. I generally just go with +damage or damage protection.

Infantry = I generally use the +30% decreased taken shield damage for infantry.
Archers = I do also use the Marksman Flag which gives the +8% damage to ranged.
Cavalry = I prefer the Banner of The Knights for +30% charge damage on the captains I have leading my parties cav formations.

I do the same for my infantry, but I also usually have a Shock Troops (Line Breakers, Elite Falxmen, etc) so i give them the Standard of Wrath for +15% melee damage.
Archers I go with the Accuracy flag instead of damage.
Banner of the Knight, yes for Melee Cav.
Tug of the Endless Steppe I think it is, mounted movement speed for my HAs.
For cavalry couldn't I just give them that +30% speed instead of the mounted movement speed?

i would be very surprised, if the much better (infantry) movement speed buff
would work for cavalry
ah, it wasn't apparent. So thats specifically for infantry. I need to read and not skim the description.

Wonder whether the buffs work if you combine them. What if I give a unitl several -15% damage banners?

Does it matter if the banner bearer gets killed?

They do not stack as only one banner bearer is active per formation. If that bearer is taken out and there is another bearer, they will take over.

Also, you can see when your enemy bearer gets taken out, another unit will grab the banner if they can get to it. I have a couple of times noticed my troops do the same thing.

I love having +25% movement speed on my 100+ battanian fian troop

basically this or higher movement for any troops

Infantry - reduced melee damage taken
Archers - bonus accuracy
Shock cavalry - charge damage

Reread the description. Not obvious that speed bonus is for infantry only. Guess I'll search youtube for some guidance.

Maybe bonus melee damage applies to infantry only?....

To be fair TW has never detailed the specifics for Banners. We are all guessing and using anecdotal evidence based on game play. I have almost 5,000 hours played and I still just guess at what banner boosts who. I have a dream that one day TW will actually let us know.
