Yes, it is best archer. But about crossbowman, best are from Vlandia.

Its the best archer in certain circumstances. Not the best archer overall though.
I have around 180 archers in my group 120 of which are Fian champs, there only 2 cases I've come across in which they were bested, assuming I had most of troops fielded. 1st is when I'm terribly out numbered by high tier cavalry, 2nd is when there's a large group of Vlandian crossbowmen turtling with their humongous shields, they are the only archers who can shield wall btw. Also its worth mentioning Fian champs are arguably the best 2h troops in the game.
I am a Battania-main who formed a band of merry men (aka 200 fians) and I easily beat every country but Vlandia. Vlandia has the only effective counters: OP tanky cavalry and crossbows.

Hm, in the custom battle I have used sturgian archers vs fians and I set my sturgian archer to advance order and they win every time. Fians might be the best to use against infanty or in other certain situations but they are not the best in archer vs archer.

It all comes down to how you use them, so no one can really claim that any unit is "the best" with the exception that sturgian archers are actually the best.

Any player involvement in deciding what troop is best will negate the results with the AI tendency for unorthodox strategy (aka standing in a circle) You would need to use delegate command at least if you want to do unit comparison.

Sturgian Veteran Bowman:
120 one hand
130 Athletics
140 bow

Nordic Shortbow:
89 speed, 52 damage, 95 accuracy, 71 missile speed

Barbed Arrows x2:
1 damage, 20 stack amount

Battnian Fian Champion:
220 two hand
170 athletics
260 bow

Woodland Longbow:
88 speed, 76 damage, 94 accuracy, 82 missile speed

Stacked Bodkin Arrows x2:
3 damage, 32 stack amount

I don't doubt you're winning in these custom battles but there is no way Sturgian archers are better than Fians... at anything...

Stats dont equal results. I dont think those numbers you posted are accurate anyway.

What are you talking about xq

Only horse archers (Khans Guard) are superior.

Those are directly pulled from within the game smartass... You can easily look the stats of troops up in the troop tree and check on items if you kill them in combat...

How in the fk can you have 1400 hours in the game and not know the basic stats of units...? Playing only modded...?

Yes, the superior sturgian veteran archers...

I hope you realize everyone is talking about the Fian CHAMPIONS and not normal Fians...

Yeah the best archers in game, but not the best troops i think, for me, the Vlandian Heavy Cavarly are waaaay to op, since the Fians don't have a shield or a lance to counter attack the Cavarly, if a Vlandian NPC sends his cavarly into your fians, for sure you're gonna lose the battle

...that is only true if you want to compare different types of units, as Lokaol mentions.

If you compare the same type (archers) you can just tell by quality of bow stat and equipment.

Well.. and this is based on my personal experience and the way I play, but I find sturgia archers to be the best fit for my strategies and I just dont like the fians. They dont work for me and I feel they are inferior. I understand that fians have the best stats, but something about sturgian archers just makes them better. Could be that they are the most economically efficient or maybe they have the best mobility... I dunno. They just always give me the best results in real battles, even vs battania. Only khuzaits give be the hardest time.

I am, ofcourse, totally with Teralitha on this one.

The only reason why I prefer to use armies of Fian Champs is because I want to challenge myself. Dont want no OP Sturgians.

I wish the top tier elite crossbowmen where more like armored/shielded with very fast moving projetiles, but slow firing, like charging death rays against cavalry in particular and armor, but as a tradeback they'd have really slow movement speed and subpar melee skills. The fians on the other hand should be quick and agile, with medium armor, very good melee and even more accurate and fast firing projectiles and especially dangerous to less armoured and slower opponents, but won't have armor piercing and the projectiles should be much slower than crossbow bolts. Fians should be able to run back, turn around fire a shot, then continue to run back, in a skirmish withdraw mode.

I was simply pointing out saying x troop is better as I commanded them in combat and they won is no proof of what is better overall. I made no claim of what troop is best just that his method of testing units in a custom battles with a player commanding one side would not provide accurate results.

As for what most people are talking about you can easily take down the map with Fian champions but that can be said with nearly any high tier unit if you have them in mass though they use 2h swords so would be my personal preference :)
