I don't have ladders during sieges in 1.2.8
Probably a dumb question. I started playing 1.2.8 a couple weeks ago. It's my first 1.2.x run. I have now sieged 6 towns. There were no ladders on the ground for my units to climb. So if my siege engine/towers die, all I can do is clang on the outer gate with swords for like 10 minutes until it breaks.

I have a 1.0.x and 1.1.x full map win and can't ever remember not having ladders to climb during sieges on either of those runs. Am I missing something simple? Did 1.2.x make it so even the normal ladders have to be "built" somehow?

I do have a few mods, but I don't see how any of them would affect ladders not showing up. They are UnlimitedCAP and Distinguished Service.

I an running 1.2.8 with no mods. And I have never had any mods.

I also have taken 8 towns and 2 castles in my current1.2.8 campaign, and I have always had ladders. And my troops have used those ladders to take 10 fiefs.

And you are in 1.2.8 with mods and have no ladders.

Do you see where I'm going here?

You never know what these doggone mods are going to affect.

You know what you have to do -- https://steamcommunity.com/app/261550/discussions/17/2968397584539744282/

(But thanks for being honest about having mods and not making us play 20 Questions to find that out.)

Ok. This is my first time trying mods to add some extra flavor. I hoped they were pretty robust by now, but I guess not.

Siege Towers take the place of ladders. If you're going to use Siege engines, then you'll need to destroy defender engines so they don't break your toys.

You can Retreat from the battle and go back in without the towers. The ladders should be there now.

Personally I think ladders should be separate from siege tower deployments, but that's what the game is.

I have ladders sometimes, but not others. I am not sure what governs that but i agree when ladders are not on hand it is a pain. I wondering if some castles and towns just don't have them but that seems odd.

Or perhaps i should have read Action Man's post. That answers the question :)

Hah. That's probably it then. Thanks. I guess I forgot how that worked. I've built Siege Towers for every siege this game. I remember my old strategy was to wear down their siege engines, but my engineering skill is so bad that I couldn't do that easily so I opted for the early assault. Guess I'll just go level my engineer.

If you go into a battle with Siege Towers, you can put them in reserve on the Deployment Screen before you start the battle. Move the tower into reserve and you should see the ladders for the same entry point immediately appear.

if you didnt post on every thread you might have time to actually play this game, then you would know that if you bring siege towers there are NO ladders.

Or perhaps I'm just not stupid enough to waste my time with siege towers.

Ladders should be seperate to Siege Towers. Given that the enemy gets a full comp of siege engines automatically and you can't build any offensive siege weapons of your own, I see my Towers getting nuked like 8/10 times. Which runs into the very problem that the towers were meant to aliviate; one method of entry.

(And before anyone comments, yes I know you technically can build offensive engines. But the enemy has a full wall of their own before your camp is even built, so they just blow them away faster than you can build them)

I will say it is better once you get 250+ Engineering and the increased siege camp speed perk. But until then it is a nightmare

As soon as you build siege engine, you can click on it and move it to 'reserve'. So queue up four trebuchets or whatever, then move them to your reserve as they're built. When they're all in reserve, you can move them back. They all build at the same time, so they'll all appear at the same time and start firing together. This is a pretty much guaranteed way to be able to destroy a town's walls regardless of your engineering level.

This + pause the game before you redeploy the catapults and then they will all appear at once.

Also don't do this BEFORE you have towers and rams built do it after.

Also also to get engineering xp the fastest man a catapult yourself and kill as many defenders as you can .

That's ok. Mods can be a lot of fun and add a lot to a game. Problem is Talewords keeps completely breaking the mods in the game with their updates. Even post 1.0 there is no clear stability modders can rely on.

There are games out there with very stable mods that are also easy to enable and enjoy. Remember to have fun out there.
