If you current battle map area does not have a bridge, you should move a significant distance to perhaps find one that does.
I can't recall ever actually fighting near Makeb, so I can't help you as to the particulars of what the maps look like around that area.
EDIT: Not that it's helpful in your current situation, but perhaps the most well known and best bridge battle area is the area around Epicrotea.
Well, after reloading about 30 times, trying every combination possible on every bridge near Makeb (my army on either side of the river, in the middle of the bridge, at some distance from it, etc...) I came to the conclusion that the devs must have forgotten to implement bridge battles on that portion of the campaign map.
No epic chokepoint battle for me :(
The battle terrain system [techraptor.net] looks something like that linked there.
Just as a guide to what sort of distances you have to travel to see any kind of change in the map. But again, I haven't battled near Makeb near enough to be able to say what sort of maps they are.
