firing companion
how i can get rid of my friend that i hired from a tavern. i googled it, but he doesn't seem to have the option to fire him.
also, i have heard that if you fire someone they will appear to be dead in the encyclopedia?

can someone bullet point some character aspects that i should be on the lookout for when hiring a companion? thanks :)

I've never done it, but I think if you right click the companion thumbnail in the party screen, you will get an option to speak with them. Then there's an option to let them go.

Hope this works.

I was able to fire a companion by telling them to come to my party. Once they arrived I talked to them and there was the option to give them the boot.

If you own settlements or castles and need a governor, the most important thing is for your governor to match the culture of the land they are governing for the loyalty boost IMO.

hmm, i have talked to him in a tavern and in my party. i'll keep at it i guess.

what i'm wondering is: if i'm playing on sandbox, should i wait till a really good companion comes along? they all seem mediocre.

is there anything else other than governing skills i need? i guess i got used to my sibling in the campaign having so many options.

thanks for the replies.

Just figured it out, if you want to fire companions you need to talk to them outside of cities, then it gives the option to fire them.
