Village Needs Crafting Material Quest
Currently trying this in the beta build. Quest says "Collect 4 Wrought Iron." I have 15 Wrought Iron as well as 5 Iron in my inventory (all produced from either refining or smelting some weapons I bought).

When I got to the village to turn in the quest, I realize the Quest pane lists my progress bar on "Collect Wrought Iron" as "0 / 4" even though I have fifteen (15) Wrought Iron in my party inventory.

Am I missing something obvious here or is this likely a bug?

I have never seen this quest but I suspect that "Collect" is the key word. Did you have the wrought iron before you took the quest? If you did, refine or smelt 4 more wrought iron and see if that does the trick.

Came looking for this exact issue.

Can confirm that smelting doesn't contribute to progress. I currently have 20-odd units of crude iron, all accumulated after being given the task with only 5 counted.

I'm assuming I'd bought those units from a caravan or villager party.

Looks like a new quest, and it's bugged yep

Refining also doesn't adjust the count.

ANY Wrought Iron should ostensibly work, whether it was found, stolen, bought, or produced at a Smithy. If the quest wants you to specifically BUY it from a special source then the quest should simply say: "Go buy us wrought iron from an _insert source_. We need 'special' wrought iron."

I had CRUDE IRON quest
and I had WROUGHT IRON quest

Crude Iron I bought Iron ore.. made it crude.. Didnt work
I then Smelted items and GOT crude iron. Didnt work.
I then sold the crude iron to store, and bought it back. Didnt work.
Figured Id just fail the quest....

14 days later. I had some items.. sold a bunch of stuff.. as I sold some crude (from 20.. down to about 10) I got the screen "You now have enough crude iron to finish the quest". Went back and turned it in.

Then saw a quest, for WROUGHT IRON. Wanted to do testing, to see what the bug was.
Took the quest (had wrought iron in my inventory already) and it instantly said "you have enough to finish".
So couldnt do testing.

Summary: yeah its bugged. No idea what triggers it to fix or not fix. but My Crude Iron one (the first one I did..) eventually fixed it self.

I have a feeling after reading this that interaction with a shopkeeper bypasses the 'collect' issue

You dont seem to 'collect' when you craft
But you do seem to ' collect' if you interact the stack with a shopkeeper, i.e buying them?

maybe?

It'd be great if they add more new quests(prefer not bugged though) :)

I only saw it in beta 1.1.0

so Im assuming it isnt even official yet (I didnt see it in 1.0.3) but maybe I missed it.. or they added it to 1.0.3 as soon as the released 1.1 beta.

I dunno

If it detects the presence of sufficient units post-sale, it means that smelting / forging isn't forcing a volume check, whereas changing the amount carried via trade does.

It's a bug.

it works. Put iron in stash. Wait. Come back, take out of stash and return to village . Quest complete. Obviously not the designers intent, yet you can complete the quest/task.
