Why? You can easily play campaign, rescue your siblings, and ignore the main quest.

Long, long ago, there was no sandbox. There was only the campaign game.

Despite the fact that you could play campaign and ignore the main quest with no ill effects, people started whining because they wanted to play a game without quests.

So TW gave the whiners sandbox -- a game without quests. And this included no quest to rescue family.

And then the whiners cried 'Wah, wah, wah. We didn't really mean 'no quests'. We meant without some quests."

Moral -- Be careful what you whine for. You might get it.

You got it wrong. I dont care about quests. Sandbox gives bonus attribute-focus points at the cost of aging and I like it. I just want a family on top of it.

Steam Bannerlord forums are very toxic. They attack every thread like rabid dogs. I never blocked anyone before and I blocked 3 players here in a month.:spiffo:

I don't see any problem with wanting something like that for Sandbox.

I suspect that the reason it's not there is because... "it's too complicated" for some reason. That reason doesn't have to be terribly complicated, either. :)

Perhaps a mod is out there that allows for that? If not, there should be.

PS: I honestly have no idea why they forked off a "Sandbox" mode. It makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is that they felt they were under so much pressure to fix/change/do something about their Story Quest offering for the main game that they just kneejerked and dumped out "sandbox" mode. There's no significant reason to play it that I can see. (Never touched it, 'cause I didn't do the Story Quest crap anyway. :))

Note: I have ALWAYS thought, and frequently suggested, that unlockable game "Starts" should be part of Bannerlord. That would give players some alternative gameplay goals and allow for some variety in their starting conditions. Starting off as a Lord or a Bandit or a Merchant or the head of a large Clan or Mercenary or <yadda yadda> would be a nice feature and shouldn't be "too complicated" to do. But, there's a Sandbox mode with what I assume is just the Story Quest module ripped out of it... Yay?

It came to be because some people couldn't stop crying about not want to play the campaign, and wanted to start the game in a position that matched their culture pick.

If you want a family play the campaign and ingore the quest after rescue the family, and if the crux is the skills and perks you can have with a older character in sandbox. Then use a mod and just alter your perks/skills as you please..

I forgot about that second one because the whiners didn't like that they started from the training ground in the middle of the map. Like it was hard to get to the land that matched their culture.

People complain that TW never listens to them, then when they are listened to, people complain about what they got, even if they got exactly what they asked for.

I remember it, I just didn't see the logic in what they did at the time they did it. Having a completely alternate play mode available, done on the fly, during EA.... made as much sense as unlocking Mods so very early... :)

I simply assume that as a natural function of... stuffs... one should expect that a "family" would be part of Sandbox play. It's decidedly "weird" if one can't have a family in Sandbox. That makes me wonder just how the family mechanic was mechanically put into the game.

I've never once bothered with Sandbox mode, so I have no experience there at all.

I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bannerlord/comments/navzq0/can_you_have_kids_in_sandbox_mode/

So, "family" (having children) was in Sandbox mode at one point? And, it was removed? I thought it was tied more to Death/etc mechanics.

Though... maybe the "Family" the OP is talking about is pre-existing Family, like the Brother and siblings/etc in the Story Quest?

If so, then... I don't see a big issue there, but it should definitely be a "toggled" Optional feature. It may be that they're entirely tied to the Quest system, and that would seem rational. If so, a mod could rip them out and make them available for Sandbox, I would think.

Yes, I mean having pre-existing siblings in sandbox would be great.

Tale CK3 that got a much deeper family dynasty than Bannerlord. They introduced a ruler creator to the game. So people could create their own starting ruler with traits and pick that suited them. Guess what? It didn't come with a existing family either. Meanwhile those that picked a "historical" character to play came with whatever family.

You could bet your last nickle. If TW made it possible to start sandbox with a family. Lets say you start at a older age, and the game generated a wife at same age as you and possible a offspring to go with it. And if their skills and perks was terrible, people would cry about that too.

I'm guessing they made sandbox because many people play this game as an immersive rpg. Having a family forced on you is annoying to people like that.

I'm surprised sandbox wasn't the default mode.

I feel like most people want a family in sandbox because family members are so OP. For people who powergame like that, there shouldn't be any problem in starting a campaign and just ignoring the main quest.
