Horse lance more damage two handed? or same as one?
So on horse back using the lance sometimes you can one hand it with a shield or put that away and use two handed, does using two handed increase the damage or range? or is there absolutely no difference?

Any couched kill is way overkill so one hand is preferable since you get a shield.

If you craft the right one you can get a really OP 2 handed polearm that you can still use as a couched lance as well both will 1 shot everything so depends on your preference couched lance is fun but you can get way more kills just swinging it round like a maniac lol.

There was a time in old M&B, that you could couch lance without cooldown.

This was amazing in single player. Enemy army lines up and you lance through taking out dozens at a time. With how the AI worked, the enemy could ignore you quite a while, while you keep lancing through taking out a hundred units in less than half a minute.

Now I'm glad they eventually removed this. But back then it was like my favorite toy being taken away.

Doesn't really matter if it's couched or not and if it's held in one or two hands. Most of the damage comes from the speed difference anyway. If you hit someone while the horse is running fast, it's a oneshot.

so basicly you turned lines of enemies into kebab..:)
-> I see it happening.. you with a jousting spear.. piercings trough halve a dosin of enemies... than dropping the lance.. to ride back to your homebase.. to gather anthother one.. ..

in the end.. you can place all these lances over a fire.. to make a nice sateh bbq out of your enemies corpses;)

Some of the polearm's abilities are only available for you with each type of posture. For instance, dismounting an enemy with a hit *I think* requires two-handed use. (but ask yourself, do you really want to charge head-on at an enemy with your shield put away for a *chance* to dismount the enemy, which you will probably kill anyway unless they hit you first?)

there are 3 types of damage you can do with a lance on horseback

1 handed
2 handed
couched.

some spears/lances can do 2 or 3 of these.

a weapon with both 1 handed and 2 handed ability will be used 1 handed if you equip a shield. and 2 handed if not.
(this means you cannot benefit of the per that adds 20% damage if 1 handed weapons are used without shield)

generally spears do more damage in 2 handed mode.. and that includes on horseback.. but ofcourse it is a different skill.. so different perks apply

so it depends on your 1h vs 2h skill what mode will actually make you do more damage.,

if I presume maximum lvls
(so 330 in both 1h and 2h skill)
and you on horseback with a shield.. that can do 1h and 2h
and you pick all the perks to boost damage maximal

1h + shield
+103.5% damage
+39.1% swing speed
+20% handling
+10% armor penetration

2h
+111.8% damage
+33.8% swing speed
+10% handling
+25% armor penetration
+30% knockdown chance
+50% damage to mounts

so the higher damage of 2h gets enhanced by also getting multiplied a bit more.. provided you have all the perks..
(but the multiplier for handling a bit lower.. you might miss a tad more often..)

now this is irrelevant as either is sufficient to 1 hit kill enemies at this kind of skillevel..

the third attack is the interesting one : couch..
basicly a couched spear.. (press x while equipped) adds to your horses "ramming damage"
which yes.. it can hit multiple enemies in a row..
so despite being the lowest of the 3 values.. couching has clear advantages...
