Just wondering what the ideal army comp is, i've been using 60 infantry 60 archers an 90 cavalry, My cavalry usually get wrecked mostly because im not good at commanding cavalry.

As far as I am aware there is no "ideal army comp" as there are too many variables.

210 horse archers

in theorie its a good mix / balance of all (cav, arch, inf).

myself i allways end with mostly cavalry in lategame. the most important reason is the higher walking speed on worldmap.

I dont see any proposal for an infantery in this game!
Ranged units - mounted or normal are very strong.
Actualy 200 fians making the job extremely good.
Khuzait noble horsed archers too.
And, if you want melee - the sturgian druzhinnik dismounted are better infantery then each infantery itself.
I love also mamluk cavalry - noble and standard one too.
If I ever use an Infantery - there are sturgian nobles on the way to the noble cavalry.
Or batanian or aserai scirmsher.
But as for me - you dont need any infantery at all in the game.

infantry are good expandeble units for siege attack you wouldn't want waste any of your useful unit in the siege.

I prefer somewhere in the area of ~50% inf (pref. heavy axemen), ~30% archers (pref. sharpshooters because they can also shieldwall) and ~20% cav (imp catas or bannerknights)

I run 80% of one type depending on who I am usually archers or cav then 20% filler I get from saving prisoners

It depends on who you're fighting.
Snow Apr 5, 2023 @ 2:26am
60 Battanian Fians in front, 60 Battanian Fians in rear and 90 Battanian Fian Champions on high ground fire for effect.

I go with about 100 Khuzait Khan's Guards. They're on horseback, have two quivers of arrows and glaives for melee. Pretty damn strong imho

50% heavy infantry (all need to have spears, swords and shields)
50% horse archers

easy to command
can deal with every situation

I have used about 2/3 battanian fian champions and 1/3 mix of druszinik champions and elite catafract cavalry, no infantry or horse archers. Battanian fian champs are excellent sword fighters as well if enemy ever get that close. First I lead my cavalry to destroy enemy cavalry and horse archers which is super easy. After that, the fians annihilate their infantry and front line archers while my cavalry takes care of any archers hiding in the rear of their formation. This works every time and can destroy an army twice in numbers with often 0 losses in a pretty short time. The larger your army the more efficient this combo is. Make sure you are the attacker so enemy goes defensive far away on some hill while you deal with their cavalry and advance your archers. Archers are spread out in a very long line max 2 units deep so everyone shoots at the same time and from different angles while also being more difficult for enemy to hit.

Every situation eh? This isnt super optimal for a siege, hills or forest

The ideal army composition depends on the opposing army you are facing as well as terrain. I usually, in times of peace, have quite balanced army composition. Keep in mind that once you are involved in a big war, very quickly you will be depending on freed prisoners or prisoners you capture to replenish your ranks. So it is good not be a one trick pony and learn to be flexible and fight with the troops you have no matter the composition.

Army composition matters little if you have a solid numerical and experience advantage. But once you are in a disadvantage, then everything counts. Tactics, positioning and cooperation between units matters.

When faced with overwhelming odds. I like (if possible) to put my archers and cross bows on a high ground with infantry protection and then operate my cavalry (and horse archers) within a range of my ranged units. I try to prevent opponent's infantry from engaging mine and if possible turning away from my archers, so they can't block arrows with their shields. Those are the most fun battles. It is moot to discuss army composition when talking about battles you just rolling over a weak opponent
