I play it with only 8gb of Ram on an Win7 Pro system (airgapped), with an old i7 and a 1050ti (IIRC). I use the lowest settings and it "plays." Stutter/chug at times, especially right at the start of a battle, but otherwise it's fine for me. My needs and expectations of a quality presentation are likely less than most other gamers, though. But, I can still play it and have fun, so..

I haven't touched it in the last few patches, though. I'm waiting for more Siege improvements.

As always - When in doubt, rely on the manufacturer's suggested system specifications.

it's always been playable with 8 gb of ram, provided your other hardware is decent enough.

i could play it with 16gb of ram, but then i got a new pc which was better, except it has 8gb of ram instead and its unplayable in campaign, entering any battle gives like 5 seconds per frame

even if it's a notebook you should be able to install a second memory lat on your mobo, just need to make sure it's the right type and speed ( fx. DDR4-2400)

if you don't know what type of RAM your pc has you can look it up on the specification sheet of the manufacturer.

look for sales, RAM is one of the cheapest parts of a PC.

also i don't think it's the RAM but another part of your PC that is holding the game back.

are you running it on an SSD or HDD?

give us a dxdiag or something

there we go, found your campaign lag.

not your 8GB of ram but the fact you're running it of an old ass HDD.

Try running it on SSD if you can.

Sorry for the delay in responding:

I do have it installed on an SSD. That problably helps, but it' only helps load things faster, not... betterer. :)

I've played since Day 1 of EA and on-and-off up until a few patches ago. (I'm waiting on Siege and Campaign AI fixes) I don't believe I've missed anything that would represent any significant hardware issues.

I do run a Win7Pro machine, though. Why? I hate Micro$oft, that's why... They may as well knock me out, tattoo "Candy Crush" on my butt, then set up hidden cameras in my house to get a full clip of my reaction. I wouldn't notice for months, I'm sure. Who looks at their own butt? :)

Anyway, my Win7Pro install has less overhead and active processing requirements than Win10 does. (Gotta get them telemetries to teh Micro$ofts!) That could reduce my overhead.

I'd recommend getting another stick of RAM. It's a very low-cost improvement that will have immediately noticeable positive improvements. You can look up your Motherboard to see what RAM it uses and what its capacity is. (It's very doubtful it's maxxed at 8gig.) You can also find reputable sites that will sell RAM and you can use their app to match up what you need, if you're worried about getting it right. Alternatively, and I highly recommend you support your local small businesses, just walk into a local computer shop and tell them what motherboard you have and they'll hook you up, quick!

Note: It's really important to note that TW, despite any other deserved criticisms, has indeed made great strides in optimizing the game. Really. True. :) So, it's possible that the experience you remember no longer exists for your system and your performance will be much more improved. Sieges were unplayable back then, any decently sized battle was a slideshow, even the Campaign Map had many more stuttering issues. (There is a slight one,, now, but it's really not a big deal and, IMO, really only evident in matured games.)

Try it out. Won't hurt nuthin'. :)

well it only runs slow because it runs out of ram, then uses hdd for virtual memory, which is why having 16gb of ram even with hdd it ran fine. i do have an ssd now, but i wouldnt wanna run the game off of virtual memory anyway

im basically just asking if the game still uses tonnes of ram or not

That's not an insurmountable issue unless those are only 4gig slots.

But, EVEN if that's the case, then you could still replace the whole motherboard for a slightly better model and not have to really spend a lot of cash. They're not that expensive if you're looking at upgrading a model that only serves up an 8gig max RAM capacity. Seriously, look 'em up. :)

And, you won't find 4gig sticks, anyway, very easily.

You have options that won't break the bank, is what I'm saying. (Well, you likely have such options.)

If you know your motherboard's manufacturer and model number, post it and you'll probably get a whole bunch of good suggestions that aren't necessarily expensive. If you are, however, a bit short of cash? Well, that's understandable too and there's not a lot you can do about that. You could, perhaps, see if any local computer shops have some outdated hardware they're getting rid of or maybe something really cheap that is still a board/ram upgrade for you. It happens. :)
