When I press play on the launcher the game crashes during the initial loading screen with the dudes in the snow. I get this error message: The application faced a problem. We need to collect necessary files to fix this problem. Would you like to upload these files now?

I have tried these things:

Verify integrity of the game cache
Reinstall
Clean install (deleting folder in documents and program data and then reinstalling)
Re-downloaded dependencies, (redist, .net, nvidia drivers)

Any ideas? I'm getting frustrated and confused

I haven't tried reverting to 1.8 because I only want to play if its on 1.9. I haven't played since patch 1.1 or 1.2 or maybe a year and a half ago. I tried to see about forcing a first time setup but i couldn't figure out how to do it for this game. Obviously I tried with no mods too, I deleted the documents folder.

Yep been sitting with this problem as well after reinstalling the game.. Its sad because this happen more then once with this game and wonder how many more times this needs to happen

Hey! So I can't find the files sciohan asked for but I was able to fix it by bypassing the launcher and starting it from inside the folder. Hope this helps someone!

I had the same issue but the difference is it almost bricked my pc. Couldn't turn on my pc couldn't do anything to it after my game crashed trying to load. I took apart my pc and put it back together and then it finally worked. Could be a major issue that needs to be brought up to devs immediately.

Seen that error a couple times but haven't seen many of them getting fixed. One guy said they fixed it by deleting everything in the \bin\Win64_Shipping_Client\ before verifying but it sounds like you've already tried a clean install.

Got any aggressive third-party antivirus software running there? Might want to try closing as many background programs as you can. Is OneDrive signed out or having weird errors?

So I did everything you suggested. I started by tidying up onedrive and uninstalling malwarebytes.

Deleting the files in the path you suggested worked for about 2 hours of play before I got another crash accessing the hero menu/encyclopedia.
