MODS for first campaign?
Hello There!

I played a lot of the original Mount and Blade years and years ago, and just bought Bannerlord.

I usually go for a first "clean" playthrough of the game I play, before tinkering with mods, but I know that Bannerlord could be way better, eventually, with mods.

I would like to kindly ask you if you advice to go for vanilla for my first playtorhugh or if I should immediately start with installing a few mods (maybe name the ones you would recommend me).

Thanks in advance for any answer!

Play the core game, and learn it before you start stack it full of mods. If you don't know the ins and out of the core game, then you can find it harder to figure out what is the fault of a mod or the core game if you end up with issues.
You should always start a new game vanilla so you can learn what the game is and how it functions. As you play, if you find things you don't like, look for mods to address it.

Dont add mods for a first time play. Why would you want to do that? The base vanilla game is a solid great game by itself. Most mods are just hacks and cheats and people who use mods often lie about the vanilla game due to their intense hatred of mods breaking with every update.

+1 to what was said above.

That said, there are a few mods that are pretty good at tweaking the experience.

I like Improved Garrisons and Better Bandits.

Another popular mod is Realistic Battles Mod, but it has a pretty steep learning curve, especially if you played vanilla as long as I did and have to adjust to a whole new way of thinking about combat.

But yeah, stick with Vanilla for a few campaigns before monkeying around with mods.

Thanks everyone, I thought that maybe some quality of life mod would have been somewhat mandatory, but I'll stick to vanilla for the time being :)

why? vanilla is so barebones and lame.
Even if you or others think that the game would be better with mods, it is worth playing on vanilla for a while just in case you have problems like crashes.

If you go straight for mods and have issues, they will be very hard to track down.

if you read this bannerlord forum for a long time,
you will have the impression, mostly idiots playing bannerlord with mods... :steamsad:

(the fun part is, i like mods in some games. but not bannerlord atm)

Its not though. But you can have your own opinion. I want to make this clear, I like mods for my games in general, I played prophecy of pendor to death in the original game as well as some other overhaul mods. i look forward to modding bannerlord in the future once the game is all finished, but the vanilla game as it is such now does not feel like a barebones game nor lame in any way. I have already replayed it many times and never once did I think the game "needed" a mod. The core feature of mount & blade games is combat, and bannerlord does it very well.

You want to play with mods now? That is fine, whats not fine is when the game gets an update and breaks your mods and you come to the forums to ♥♥♥♥♥ AND MOAN AND CRY and blame TW for all your woes when you know very well that TW has never supported modding. Sure they added tools and a workshop in the last big update to make you happy, but they still dont support modding. The game breaks because of your mods, you are on your own.

About 95% of the topics on here are problems caused by modding and rants from people who use mods and they often exaggerate and outright lie about it. They are a very tiny and very loud micro minority of the entire player base that grossly over estimates their importance and influence. TW is still making content for bannerlord and may be so for the next decade. They have never once said they were ever going to stop adding more to bannerlord. Thats the reality.

Recommends mods because vanilla is "so barebone and lame" and immidiately follow up by making a thread complaining that all mods are "utterly" broken.

Yup, checks out.

Yeah, only reason he didn't get the Jester is I didn't want him to get the points.

Dont worry.

Changing logic from thread to thread is totally normal here, as is immidiately going into impotent attempts at personal attacks.

You will fit right into the local "TW ruined my childhood!" support group.

Oh, absolutely. Changing logic is definitely the cornerstone of any meaningful discussion. And personal attacks? They’re like the cherry on top of a well-reasoned argument, right? As for the “TW ruined my childhood” club—honestly, if that’s the vibe you're going for, you're really setting the bar low. But hey, good luck with that. I'm sure you'll have lots of deep, meaningful conversations there! 🙄

I am afraid I am not welcome in that club. But you have potential.
