Yes, walking backwards is slower then forwards, so just strafing backwards isnt working anymore, but thats ok, as it makes fights wierd when you can just walk backwards and kill an entire army without getting hit ;)
Thats wierd, i have 180 Athletics, that means 18 weight reduction and 18% more movement from the skill alone, with medium armor (17.4kg total) i outrun everything except horses.
you need a higher Athletics stat. it is more useful in recent updates.
Let's assume the noble has the workout routine, muscle mass, lean body fat, professionally crafted diet, and cocktail of experimental drugs to be at the peak of human physicality that is today's NFL player. Now, put him in leather boots, leather pants, heavy leather armor, heavy padded gloves and a solid metal helmet. Hand him a sword. Now lets assume our looter friend has been running his entire life: running from slavery, running from oppression, running from war. He doesn't have a lot of food, but he has heart. We have models people like this in our world as well, and they tend to win marathons when they finally break out of the hell that was their youth.
So, NFL player with footwear that is roughly five times the weight of their typical footwear, with leather pants instead of track pants, with double to triple the weight of their normal pads, a heavier helmet, and holding a long pointed stick that could impale you just as easily as the person in front of you.
vs.
A person basically built for distance running wearing as little clothing as possible.
Yeah, I have no doubts on who can outrun who.
Big Boxs have a guide from last year on how to level Athletics really fast and really fun.
I did make a character with +1 skill in everything and 0 perks to test in 1.5.10. Levels okay fast and its still fun doing headshots with javelins on bandits in hideouts and taking down cavalry in the deserts with a big pointy stick.
Spoiler alert, fight naked for the extra fun.
At 250 Athletics skill, wearing heavy Vlandian armor, Sturgian shield and helmet is where I could run down fleeing soldiers or escape from the baddies.
