R.I.P Athletics
I made a 2hander&Athletics Battanian and hugely disappointed. With about 130 Athletics and light armor (I wear every equipment with 1kg weight max) and with all the speed giving perks I can barely catch anyone! And backtracking while swinging axe no longer work, everyone catches me easily.
It was a good skill tree, now I will ignore it and use a horse instead.

Wow... That's really weird. I have Athletics 75 and Medium-heavyheavy armour (encumberance 30-ish I think), but I run faster than all my troops. I can't catch up to retreating looters and similarly light-armoured troops, but otherwise it seems okay.

U play 1.5.10?

Nope! Updating to beta now to check what happens with a fresh new character,.

I dont have any problems with athletics. With the right perks and a high skill i run faster then everybody........well, horses still catch up to me, but thats normal.
Yes, walking backwards is slower then forwards, so just strafing backwards isnt working anymore, but thats ok, as it makes fights wierd when you can just walk backwards and kill an entire army without getting hit ;)

Before the update I could catch and kill every looter and kill them with 120 athletics. Now I can barely catch 1 or 2 looters before they disappear from map.

Thats wierd, i have 180 Athletics, that means 18 weight reduction and 18% more movement from the skill alone, with medium armor (17.4kg total) i outrun everything except horses.

Athletics needed a nerf. It took too little focus and experience to see a dramatic increase in your overall movement speed. Then again, I am of the belief that someone in full armor carrying a massive two hander, a bow, and arrows would never be able to run down a lightly clothed looter even at max athletics skill.

even if the looter is a malnourished poor person living off scraps going against a 6'4 NFL Noble? lol

you need a higher Athletics stat. it is more useful in recent updates.

Let's assume the noble has the workout routine, muscle mass, lean body fat, professionally crafted diet, and cocktail of experimental drugs to be at the peak of human physicality that is today's NFL player. Now, put him in leather boots, leather pants, heavy leather armor, heavy padded gloves and a solid metal helmet. Hand him a sword. Now lets assume our looter friend has been running his entire life: running from slavery, running from oppression, running from war. He doesn't have a lot of food, but he has heart. We have models people like this in our world as well, and they tend to win marathons when they finally break out of the hell that was their youth.

So, NFL player with footwear that is roughly five times the weight of their typical footwear, with leather pants instead of track pants, with double to triple the weight of their normal pads, a heavier helmet, and holding a long pointed stick that could impale you just as easily as the person in front of you.

vs.

A person basically built for distance running wearing as little clothing as possible.

Yeah, I have no doubts on who can outrun who.

I am conflicted about it, on one side it is good that 2h infantry is not to fast but on the other I see they cant fight so good, because they too cant move back fast enough to use their weapon and just try to block and block until they die. They should not have made the nerf to back pedalling, because they never fixed the ai that just keeps pushing into you. Often in one big blob of a group.

Big Boxs have a guide from last year on how to level Athletics really fast and really fun.

I did make a character with +1 skill in everything and 0 perks to test in 1.5.10. Levels okay fast and its still fun doing headshots with javelins on bandits in hideouts and taking down cavalry in the deserts with a big pointy stick.

Spoiler alert, fight naked for the extra fun.

I cant edit my post :steamfacepalm:

At 250 Athletics skill, wearing heavy Vlandian armor, Sturgian shield and helmet is where I could run down fleeing soldiers or escape from the baddies.

Yeah it needs to be, at the moment my stable branch character with like ~180 athletics and speed perks is like The Flash. In tournaments he can keep up with the horses, and I accidentally fling myself off ledges and take fall damage from how fast I am. It's nonsensical.
