...I don't remember it being this crappy. You are not wrong, there is something f'd with the AI.
Its been ages since I've played Warband, and things were definitely nowhere NEAR as snowballish as they were in early Bannerlord, but AI still did plenty of dumb things back then even, though then you could at least largely attribute it to their AI personality (like the lords who were always itching to get into war/raid even in, or especially during peace time.) as opposed to just general AI. Really, I think its just these elements that could at least go on to help things a bit currently, as I still think things can snowball a little hard once one kingdom gets some big wins. My current game I'm just a mercenary living the high life off a big contract due to the Western Empire having Gario get axed in a random battle, and every other kingdom taking turns whittling them down till the point they're now at a few castles and one or two towns.
Anyways, realistically I don't think Bannerlord, at least not for sometime will hit the same level of complexity as Warband in number of mechanics at least, though it does technically have a much stronger base game/foundation then say, the original Mount and Blade. I'd honestly just look at this title as a sort of new launching stage, either as a continually updated and eventual complete title in itself, whether through free updates or DLC, or the progenitor for a much better sequel, like Warband is to Mount and Blade, albeit, I'll admit this is all pretty optimistic, and I do hope the AI at least one day gets enough window dressing, or literal personality injected into it to make it feel as compelling as the various meme'd lords, ladies, and companions of Warband. If only Warband had proper mods featuring death/dynastic succession, I'd probably never leave it.
