My town's merchant hates me
My recently "aquired" town has a merchant I might have captured a caravan of while he was in cahoots with a rebel faction. I "liberated" the town from the nasty rebels but the merchant still hates me. Like a lot. Blocking off his missions, ruining the towns loyalty and conspiring against me no doubt.

What options do I have to make him, *uhm* disappear. Or more docile?
I have -59 relations because I attacked his Rebel Caravan...

this might help + maybe the perk presence - high security +5 when present in a location

It's too bad you can't sneak into the town at night and knife him. All the while avoiding town guards. And then maybe do something like donating a bunch of money to his wife or son or whoever inherited his business, so you can end up on better terms with his family without them knowing the truth. The developers missed a good opportunity to incorporate more roguery in the game.

This slow sabotage you mentioned is not an advertised of feature game. So saying one should be able to do it does not help nor should it be expected to be there. Time, quests and helping the notables caravans in a fight. Those are the methods we have to work with

Try figure out general fiefs you want and increase relations throughout your game with notables
That suggestions doesn't work, because he "doesn't trust me enough" to accept my help. The little bastard is still tantalising me with his blue exclamation mark on his head. Which, in my humble opinion, adds insult to injury.

And I strongly disagree with the notion that my commentary does not help or that I should not expect such feature. Firstly your are not in a position to decide that, secondly whatever value the players' feedback has is up to the developers/publishers, in this peculiar case even modders and it's up to them to act/comment on it or not.

Oh and I don't have the complete list of this game's features in my head. Do you suggest I should know them all?

Well thank you Captain hindsight for this glorious titbit of information.

Me sees Rebel Flag, me smash. Very simple, very nice for roleplaying...

I'm sorry. Ya sounded like an experienced player but that's ok if your new and not used to game mechanics.

Um I have never seen a notable ever not give quests to me even if I have negative relation. But bannerlord is game where we can screw up. Damn -59 that's a lot. You must've raided him a lot. You may be screwed but that's part of the game

As for this sabotage and muscle out thing. Well it's not a feature in the game nor has it been advertised that it would be. I That's why its not reasonable ro expect it. I did not decide it, that how it is! I'm not against it though

Put a governor in the town (or assign them as governor and then replace them with someone else if you didn't want them as the governor, as long as they are in the town) which has the charm perk "forgivable Grievances" it'll take time but slowly your relation with them will increase

Edit: Also having high security will increase relations with notables in the town

They did say they were going to go back and try and make good on that promise but I doubt they would ever add anything that neat.

1. Place your companion in the city via (+) button, they will improve relationship with notables
2. Assign governor with the same culture, it also increases loyalty
3. Focus on festival project or anything that increases loyalty and speed up the project

I've come to seek aid from my esteemed fellow players in this abysmal hell hole that is the Steam Forums so any expert knowledge I might have brought to the table is invalidated by default.
By asking questions here I forfeit any possible redemption.

Seems I've become somewhat of a luminary on bad relations then.
Let me tell you, he still has quests, but he doesn't let you do them for him. A complete tosser that one. I wish there was some way to get him out of MY bloody TOWN, you know the TOWN I LIBERATED, with my own blood sweat and tears. (Well technically my mens' but I almost broke a sweat too.)

Here is the amount of Caravan's I raided:
One (That's 1 in Barbaric, or ἕν in ancient Greek or Unus in latin"

As customary, I kept the looted merchandise and captured guards as slaves and sold them off eventually.

Relations took probably a hit because of the war. Maybe he was best buddies with the Rebel ursurper and that did make it worse. Maybe he just didn't like me from the start, but I tend not to piss off notables if possible. I still end up with -5s occasionally but that's just jealousy.
He is the one person in Calradia that really really hates me.

Is there an upper limit of hate?
Can it go bellow -100?
Can I antagonise him enough so he decides to outright attack me on the street?

not a great friend of rights are you?
Also mildly unrelated, but which rights are we talking about?
The like the idea of the right of Prima Nocta but it sadly didn't exist, though this is a fantasy game so we should be fine.
Also I like the right to clean up my own mess and keep my garden clean of pesky leeches and critters and that idiot is not welcome in my town.
What about the right of shoot first and ask questions later?
I just killed rebels, I would argue siding with them makes them automatically wrong. So many rights I like and respect in this game...

Update:
I'm now at -57 woooooo...
Maybe he will become neutral in this lifetime. Or maybe the sons and daughters might be able to have a normal chat with him...

I had an issue with a merchant hating me after deciding to help out the artisans. His opinion was at -12.

I had the smithing perk which increases relations with notables if you create a weapon for them - fortunately he ordered one and that was enough to get his relation ship over -10, and then he was willing to give me a quest. Depending on your skills that might be an option, too, although you'll need a lot more smithing jobs to get out that situation.

Having high security and high loyality in the city might help too. You might get small increases of relations with local notables, but it's random who is chosen for those. These will take quite a long time to clear a value of -58.

Smithing is an option, but if it goes on like this, my grandchildren will still impress that family with their artful craftsmanship.
Speaking of which, can he die of old ages? Does his successor continue disliking me or will we get a clean slate?

Keep us updated if you don't drop the playthrough before then, I'm curious about it myself.
I spend far too much time with that play through for one notable to ruin it for me. I'll keep you updated if times allow it.

Your first mistake was assuming Taleworlds would put actual thought and design into their game. Your second mistake was participation in this forum in a manner that instigates the local Whiteknight brigade.
Now you really would think that wasn't part of my thought process before I considered to post questions here. I don't even know if it still counts. Is making the mistake deliberately better or worse? Anyway. So far the conversation isn't as bad as my relation with that idiot notable. So all is fine.

Just to mention one potential "solution" to your problem - you could always shadow his caravans until they run into something hostile, and help out. That tends to raise relationship decently enough, and it'll only take half a decade or so of in-game time to get enough of those encounters to get you into positives. If you did level up your Charm, anyway /s
I actually like that solution. I was hoping I could just drive home a point and continue to raid his caravans just to aggravate him further. Just to prove to him how fruitless that much unreasonable hate is and how much misery it brings upon him.
But alas, I think the game forbids me to attack Caravans flying under my own banner.
I actually feel sad that owning a town made the game slightly less fun in that regard.

Now it's just like:
"Look I saved another of your silly caravans again, I don't care how much you hate me, because I'm altrustic and you can't look yourself in the mirror because you are full of shît and hate and anger. Yeah, go ahead, wait for somebody else to do your shîtty erands for, well if you don't trust me, those quests won't tick themselves off anytime soon. You are so lucky the gods forbid me to drive you out of my town. Count your blessings Mr. -59 Notable NPC dude"

Joy to read your posts, though, definitely appreciate the literary effort put into them.
Much appreciated.

The game sincerely is like:
Random Farmer Rep.:"The village is starving, we don't have enough grain to survive next winter, please donate grain for free but actually just don't because I don't like you and therefore don't want your help."
This reminds me of some of my past relationships. This hits far too close to home...

I understand it know.
I am unable to do something, because I don't even care. It's actually rather brilliant.

I (in the literal sense of the word) can't care less.

I made a screen/artwork thingy out of it. It's a bit wordy but I'm not in the mood to trimm my words back into memable shape.

For Lyfris the Ironmonger, the day I graced his caravan with my presence was the most important day of his life. But for me it apparently just was Tuesday.

I honestly think as soon as you stop being a free-roaming independent, the game stalls completely. There's just not enough stuff going on to keep things interesting.

Yes

Been toying with the idea of starting a new game on hardest difficulty and ironman just to see if can juice any more gametime, but I'm probably going to end up going back to warband mods soon

The positives of bannerlord are outweighed by huge negatives when comparing to a warband mod play.

The only thing that will probably make me alternate is future bannerlord mods, and the fact we can have larger battles. But given how bad the ai is still, It's not as enjoyable as some small battles in warband mods where the ai knows to at least regroup in orderly fashion, not just turn tail and get slaughtered

interesting, please let us know if it works

I would like some subterfuge features through the rogue skill tree in future. The ability to incite riots, assassinate or KO nobles to take them out of the wars, etc.
