It doesnt really matter all that much what faction you go with. Being Battanian is probably the only one that really stands out.
Personally I am pretty keen on efficiency myself, so yeah, I dont waste time on smithing either. I dont have a problem with wifes though:) One advantage of a wife is that it makes it
cheaper to recruit that clan to your kingdom.
It is not actually that hard to do. Once you are past the inital process of setting up your kingdom and getting a handful or two vassals the rest is essentially just mopping up. The real challenge for most, me included, is playing beyond that point where you have effectively won the game.
And you can do it considerably faster than 2 generations. I have conquered the map in roughly 4,5 in-game years (about 360 days).
The main "trick" to conquering the world is essentially just to fight only one war at a time. Just pay everyone else off. If you do this then you cant really fail.
