Your main character can die (unless you mod it out) of old age, or they can retire (there's a retreat east of Lageta where you can do this, on the side of the lone mountain there).

Then you can have someone else as your main character.

You can assign clan parties to individual heroes (both family and companions) and they'll wander around doing what NPC lord parties do. They'll usually hang around your fief, not sure what they do if you have none because I only make individual parties once I have a fief that needs defending/patrolling.

You can't actually split your clan up into multiple clans (which would be required to make one of your rugrats a lord/lady or vassal), though you can marry off the women in your family and if their husband dies they might become leader of their husband's clan.

So in practicaly MC death situation aside, there no different from companions, even companions are more usefull, which is they can be vassal and create own clan and expand my kingdom. Am I right?

Promote a companion to a vassal/clan is imho terrible. You get a low tier clan, that can't hardly field any power what so ever at the cost of a fief. Unless you marry your own daughters to their new clan their chance of grow is next to nill.

Well... no different... Maybe you should have a good look at how many attribute/focus points your little sister gets compared to a companion.

I sometimes marry her off to a companion that I turn into a lord for my newly founded Kingdom, but I've had games where she never got married because I don't want her going to another clan.

There's a limit on how many companions you can have, no so with family. I've had games where I had 4-5 caravans running about, 2-3 alleyways, 2-3 parties and governors in every fief (had about a dozen), you can't do that with companions alone.

Companions can also decide to leave your clan (ex: being merciful too often with a cruel companion in the party), family doesn't under any circumstances.

Kids have much better stats than hired companions and you get to finetune them. By the time they come online, that's of course not really needed any more, but they are better than companions in just about every way.

1. Kids have more Attrib points and Focus points when you get them.

2. You have more control over what skills they start with.

3. The number of family members is not limited as with companions.

4. You can have your male children marry someone and get even more family members.

5. In-laws make good governors because you can marry someone with the correct culture.

6. Family members make good caravan leaders because they get Trade experience for running the caravan. They can hit Trade 300 easier than your main can, then you can make one your heir.

7. You can marry female family members to clan leaders in your faction to encourage reproduction.

8. Siblings and children and spouses often come with good equipment you can grab.

9. A female family who inherits clan leadership can get married and her husband will come to your clan.

10. If you care, there are a couple of achievements that can be had for farming children.

3. Last time I played, a few months ago... Family members ARE LIMITED. They used to not be limited, and it was quite common to have 100+ members after a couple decades.

I've had it since then, where the families stop breeding, If you hit the cap (let's pretend, 50) and you have an unmarried male. you MIGHT be able to marry him to a woman making 51 (I dont know, never tested or cared) But that couple WILL NOT have kids..

Unless this has been patched out.

i.e. a change back to original way it was

The major advantage of offspring, in my opinion. is you can tailor their skills to suit your needs. A wanderer or other lord/lady comes with what they have. Your offspring can be trained into any particular role you need/want.

Need a surgeon in the future? Train one with mac skill/traits. No more need to hire a wander with the surgeon tag who only has 2 skill points.
