What part?
Not able to recall to party. Or the part where you before had to pick them up, then leave them in fief again. Then leave the fief, re-enter the fief, and then pick them up again to clear the flag.
You using 1.2.10?
It looks like the only scenario they are not recallable is right after they recovered from captivity.
I think you can still assign them to lead a party in that state, but not to be a governor or come to you.
Since I only use them now for caravan income to offset army and garrison costs generally, as my clan is huge, I just recall them by using them to start armies in whichever town they escape to when one of my armies loses a fight, and then change party leader with a clan member once they've begun recruiting which is often almost immediately. I can't afford the time crisscrossing the map while battling three factions, two of which I can't use diplomacy on until I defeat them with 100 score against.
It works decently enough but during earlier in a campaign it can be a real nuisance. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed by now as it doesn't seem like it should be too complicated to sort out.
There was made several bug reports about this on the TaleWorld forums. It used to work before they did some changes, either with intent or as something that happened due to a patch. The outcome was basically they stating working as intended.
Once they in the wind, you can't assign them any roles what so ever or call them to your party. Should work for family members though.
