What the heck? I'm literally saying the exact opposite: to AVOID reloading better savepoints. Thats the OPPOSITE of save scumming. Use google if u don't know what save scumming means
It's only asking for trouble.
Don't get me wrong. Iron-man mode is awesome. Usually. In other games.
It could be in this game as well, but the way it's implemented now there is no reason to use it.
if you want to play that way with no save scumming and no do-overs,
then you can do that perfectly fine without enabling ironman mode.
Simply don't save scum and don't reload for 2nd chances.
A bit of self control is all you need.
The problem is that miss clicks happen, crashes happen, bugs happen, cats jumping on keyboards happen. In such cases (maybe not the cat one) you want to be able to salvage your game. If you enabled ironman mode you're out of luck.
So yes, it's pointless. Even if you want to play iron-man mode. Don't enable it.
If you really can't control yourself. Maybe think about recording your gameplay.
Even better, stream it, so you can't do editing tricks and cuts.
the act of reloading a save you made prior to making a consequential decision, be it dialogue or combat based, until you reach a more desirable outcome.
Iron Man mode prevents this, because you only get one save, and you have to save the game before you quit. You cannot reload an earlier save in Iron Man mode so you have to accept whatever is happening in the game.
The definition of save scumming is reloading a prior save to redo an action to get a different result.
So you want to avoid save scumming.
So you want the game to create a save after every action you take as a player. This is a living world, and just because you cannot see something happening, it's still happening. So you click on the map to go to a destination. You want the game to save after that? And if you change your mind and do something else, over write your save and make another?
In Vanilla, the saves aren't too bad, at least at the start. If you're using mods or playing a longer game, those saves can take a long time. If you wanted to make a save after every time you did something, you would be spending most of your game time looking at the Save screen instead of playing.
So like I've said in my other replies on this post - there is nothing stopping you from updating your save. Hit F5. The game will create a new save, deleting your last Iron Man save. Do this as much as you want.
Reduce the time between the game saving for you. I think the default is every 30 minutes or so. I reduced mine to 15.
this is not exactly true though.
the thing is, players will alt F4 out of the game, I've seen people do this while playing so called ironman mode. To prevent the auto save from happening.
Or they make a backup of their save file before every play session.
You may think why play ironman mode then if you're going to cheat like that?
exactly my point.
Just don't cheat. Just don't reload. No need to enable ironman mode to play ironman mode.
This is all you really needed. :)
