I honestly do not know. Why don't you take a save and then try it? Then come back here an let us know.
You do realize, do you not, that whereas companions are limited, family members are not? (Or if they are, it's a very high limit.) And if you are playing campaign, you have your brothers and sister you can rescue. Add in your spouse and your brothers' two spouse, and you have six family members you can have in your party. Then there is the second generation that you'll get when they all have kids.
iam in a two front war right now and dont really have the opportunity to shop for companions.
once i have time i will try.
iam allready using my family members but iam still a bit short on qualified help.
mostly because i need a lot of governors.
i made a mistake with nathanos wife and both are not exactly elite material.
i have 2 brothers, 1 sister and 3 spouses and bunch of children that are not yet of age.
If you don't have enough governors, give away some fiefs and let the AI deal with them. Hoarding all the fiefs is generally bad for your faction, because the other clans won't be strong enough to help in war - like that two front war you're dealing with.
