How does Bannerlord compare to Warband?
I'm considering buying this game now at the sale, but I'm wondering if this game is really worth it. I see a lot of critique and even after all these years the game seems to lack some basic content.

I had a blast with Warband, how does this game compare to it besides better graphics? Is the modding landscape as rich?

Do mods fix the major problems of the vanilla game?

Depends entirely on who you ask. I'd say it's a pretty even 50/50 split right about now. On people preferring Warband over Bannerlord and vice versa. Hard to tell at the moment. Wait until 1.3.0 and give the question another go xD

There's plenty of mods, yes, but if you're looking for bigger more intricate mods I'd hold off for a bit. I think most modders have seized working on their mods until the game is actually "finished" and there will be no more huge additions/patches released.

Can't say I blame them. TW hasn't made it easy for modders with this one, let me tell you that much. Personally I don't use mods, so I couldn't care less, and I prefer Bannerlord, but I do understand their frustration.

Well, it's worth it if it's 50% off, I can say that much. Didn't even know about that. Yeah, that's worth it.
There's like 5 threads on the first 5 pages asking the same thing

Just got Bannerlord yesterday, I'm a huge Warband player and all I can say is... I am really disappointed in Bannerlord so far. The aesthetic is beautiful, feels really nice when you're part of a siege or a huge battle cause it looks so damn cool, but jesus christ the AI is a carbon copy of Warband, with the same exact AI procedure of 'run straight at you and never stop running towards you no matter what. The worst part for me, is that the combat feels less reliable than Warband was. 50% of my attacks are dealing 5 to 10 damage, and the other 50% are doing 50 to 100 and honestly, I can't tell what I'm doing differently in my attacks to create such a disparity. Unreliable, simply put.

EDIT: Oh and not to mention the copious amounts of my attacks that seem to just... Whiff.... Hitbox feels really unreliable and it doesn't look like what I see is where the attack actually goes

I think many who came from Warband probably have experienced the same. In Warband I could ride around with a short mace and knock people down left and right. When I started Bannerlord I couldnt hit a damn thing. You just need some time to adapt and then you will get used to it/learn to hit.

TL:DR: Combat and battles CAN be fun but campaing is really bland and progression is bad IMO. If you don't use mods, wait for the next big patch to see if you want it.

I believe is, as the previous guy said, a "used to X" problem, my impression is that the hitboxes are more tight so if you physically miss by 1-bit...you will miss by 1-bit, but I could be overselling it.
On regards to damage, TW current calculation of Armor and dmg type is kinda bad so it depends on which weapon you are using, where you are hitting and what armor value the enemy has, there are mods that improve every aspect of this but that is no solution in my books, TW needs to improve this.
The main gripe I see most people having with Bannerlord is that it is missing many basic features and SPECIALLY campaing mechanics, some which previous games had. There are mods for it but again, no solution in my books, some basic mechanics are needed for vanilla.

All in all, for anyone thinking about buying it I'd say to wait for a bit, at least till July-August, since the next big patch should be coming around that time...hopefully.

I spent MAYBE an hour in single player for Warband, the rest of my dozens of hours was in multiplayer. How does Bannerlord compare in that department?

Bannerlord multiplayer was a hot mess at launch, I know because there were tons of threads about it though I never really tried it myself. No clue if it got fixed or not.

As for singleplayer, Warband with mods like Prophecy of Pendor or the LoTR mod is better, but with no mods or very light mods Bannerlord is better. IMO

The only things I miss from Warband are the Rhodoks, winged helmet and prison breaks (Bannerlord supposedly has them, but no castle/town ever has prisoners).

Have done prison breaks several times. So yes they there. During wars you find more of them.

If you are comparing the vanilla versions of both games, Bannerlord is by far the better game.
Modded Warband > Modded/Vanilla Bannerlord > Vanilla Warband
