How to go independent clan as a kingdom ruler

Ive got voted as a ruler of Battanians but I dont have the options to go independent when talking to a governor of my fiefs. Do I have to give up and leave the kingdom to achieve independecy? It feels stupid to give up my 17 fiefs for that, also as a rulers I should be able to declare independency

In mean in the end - if You´re already ruler of a kingdom, there´s no benefit in creating Your own kingdom instead of having Your own banner colors. When creating an own kingdom it´s about that You´re the ruler of the faction, which You already are for another faction. One basically can´t be more independent than that in the game.

Besides:
There´s apparently a bug in the game, which does not allow to take the fiefs with You when You leave the kingdom. But tbh i have never heard that someone wants to leave the kingdom as the ruler of the kingdom...

There should be an option to abdicate on the Kingdom tab. Upper right of the screen there's a button. They will elect a new king, then you can leave the kingdom. If you keep those fiefs, you'll be at war with Battania, but you can buy your way out of that, or just kick their ass.

Edited to add : I just did all these -- abdicated, left the kingdom, kept my fiefs, was at war with old kingdom, bartered for peace and kept my ♥♥♥♥.

But I have not crapped my game up with a bunch of mods, either.

I would suggest you save first just in case there is a bug and it tries to bite you.

Thanks for replies, however I just went to the guy who wants to tear down the empire and progressed the main quest from there. It was a bit counterintuitive because I started the quest to build my own empire with blackjack and hookers but I couldnt progress because I wasnt in Empire faction.
