Benefit of Clearing Gangs?
Is there any reason to go to gang spots in towns and clear them out? You take a fat chunk of reputation against them and only get minor with the traders, and can take over the spot if you have rogue. Is there like... a prosperity buff? Security buff? Militia debuff?

No - it´s rather disappointing. I did it, because i didn´t know the feature, but if You own an alley You get like 67 gold, and the guy who is there gets XP in some skills, as he will also do quests, like anyone parked in a settlement, or idle parties, or he will participate in tournaments, like anyone who has any combat skill at 100+. Also You and that guy will get roguery XP, but it´s easier to get this via using forest bandits as archers, and / or highway men as cavalry, or prison breaks. The nice thing is that the bandits have skills like they were tier 6 units, but they are only tier 5, which means You pay less upkeep. They have worse equipment though, but for archers it doesn´t matter too much - and for early game to fight other bandits, they do good.

Biggest drawback is that You have to defend that alley every now and then, which requires You to get there, to have a super easy fight, because You have Your combat gear. I did this once, and chose to abandon the alley when the second triggered, and took that guy into my party, even if i hired him only for the alley.

Clearing the alleys is a bit older and also not worth it - as it´s only temporary (if they haven´t changed it), and there´s like no real benefit from it.

It´s like one of these features, which could be rather good, if they would put a bit more effort in it - like having Your own crime syndicate - and instead of competing for settlements, You´d compete for alleys, and certain illegal goods to sell - and instead of caravans You´d have some smugglers, while You could ally some of the bandits - but Your party size would be restricted, and certain companions wouldn´t join You.

Edit: but the guys in the alleys are more useful than some governor in a castle, as they will only level steward. Anyone in a town will level much more skills, and also increase the relations with the people...

Stuff like this is why early access has been more of a curse than a blessing. Completely unfinished parts of the game or stuff that just IS NOT explained whatsoever.

I think you get some passive XP income for the rogue skill from owned alleys. That would be the main appeal i guess.

It's rather easy to obtain passive income when you start out. Mid to late game when you drown in dinars its not really worth while contnet.

It's about XP, not money.

But remember about assigning to alley: Your companion must have at least 30 level of Roguery skill and cannot have Merciful trait. I've tried to put second companion into alley, but his mercy was been +1 (too high to put to alley).

You must also remember, to not exaggerate with putting companions into alleys. Every companion, which you put there, increase your crime rating by 0.5 within kingdom, which owner(s) of alley(s) have. Having one is just ok, two you must careful with missions, since some missions can give you crime rating. Having three within kingdom will increase over time your crime rating, making you potential criminal and this will make reason for war of this kingdom, if your crime rating exceed 60.

Joining to kingdom or creating your kingdom increase crime rating drop rate by next 0.5 within your kingdom.

Good points.

I never worry about roguery (though it is OP when leveled high... Getting legendary gear in year 5 of campaign is insane.. For free) because I don't put points there. I don't care about extra loot/cash... nor do i find their perks that great.

BUT... if someone wants to go Roguery, definitely use bandits as troops. They are strong.

You don't really go "toe to toe" with high tier troops using "bandit units". But you can get a lot of rougery skill fighting with them. In a new campaign I usually try recruit as many as possible and max out my party of only bandit troops, Mounted mountain bandits and forest archers. Later on when (if) you get the perk to transform bandit troops into regular troops, you get a large amount of rougery xp for doing that too. The loot get silly at times though, you have looters drop legendary rags and whatever.

It is still vendortrash with fancier names and unlike Warband the pricemodifier for improved gear is not as quite so dramatic:)

That said, going heavy on bandits early and levelling roguery is a no-brainer. It is essentially the strongest form of "passive" income.

My first (and favorite) skill, which I have currently above 300 (alongside with Scout). Bandits are easy replaceable, we can get later a lot's of them (especially during one type of mission from main campaign), so my army is depend of, what I find (usually forest or mountain bandits, but sometimes I even hire looters, if I can't find stronger bandits). Plus, it's ideal piece for filling garrisons on your cities/castles, since we're find stronger bandits faster, than you'll train enough soldiers to at least tier 4 soldiers. Plus, if we have at least 150 level of Roguery skill, then any escort caravan mission is joke.
No mentioning about loot, since I have often too many loot for sell, that I must or buy expensive goods (usually tier 6 armor), or I must go from city to city, filling my pockets on the way.

Soldier losses? What soldier losses, we can replace them easily.

You should. Rogue run is quite fun. Your army literally comes out of nowhere, constantly.
