Best crossbow unit?
I wanted to hire a ranged unit that really packs a punch against armored units, I thought hey you know crossbow units exist, (im playing as vlandians) and ive realized the vlandian crossbows arent that great... they have 130 crossbow skill and I have no way to check what crossbow/bolts they use. So what crossbow men is the best? I see theres a hired crossbowmen with 180 (no idea crossbow/bolts again) but I cant recruit those, same with the Boar Champions, 180 crossbow skill (no idea crossbow/bolts once again) but once again you cant hire those. So which is the best crossbow unit you can actually get? I need like 50 of them so hired is impossible unless theres some easy way to get them.

(yes i know about fians, I dont want fians. Yes i know they are the best unit in the game, but I dont want them)

Vlandia getting nothing but crossbows is overpowered enough, you can replace your lost crossbows quickly and easily with those.

if you want ones that are better armored, the imperial crossbow sergents are quite good but harder to get in large numbers.

Are the Boar troops "gettable" any other way than them showing up on Prisoner lists for converting?

A lot of the unique units show up in villages so maybe the Boars do too.

Hired Crossbowman can usually be acquired at the tavern, or as freed prisoners, and prisoners that can be converted into your party after time has passed. Not easy to get 50 of these really quickly like you want unfortunately.

Boar champions are unique to the Company of the Boar clan, only acquired through converting prisoners into soldiers, or freeing them through combat. Not easy as well.

There's currently no decent crossbowman with matching skill level unfortunately, vlandia and i think the empire troop trees provide the staple 130 crossbowman that are easily obtainable.

----

The thing is about skill level however is that they just use it more proficiently (accuracy, reload, etc) but not damage, their damage comes mostly from their equipment.

----

I myself have edited the current troop tree because I also wanted a decent crossbowman instead of the meme fian archer spam for my armies, since there is no easy way to get the 180 skilled ones mentioned above - so i just made a new tier for the current ones.
I mean id love to hire some of those boar champions but its just not worth it to get like 5 of them. Same with hired crossbows, I can get like 10 of them if I really tried but they would slowly get phased out through battling.

hence why I'd suggest the Vlandians, you can get them en'mass easily and cheaply

The point of Vlad Crossbowmen is you can field a whole lot of them and they are easily replaceable. Any crossbow will pack a punch anyway so their 130 crossbow skill won't be a detriment. The f*ckers are still much more accurate than archers (I've been hit too many times by them from so far away to not know this)

Vladian Sharpshooters use the best crossbow in the game. Not sure about the imperial ones. I doubt there is much difference between them all anyway.

Weapon stats in general don't seem as important any more. So long as they have superior equipment, they'll preform more favorably then a unit with higher stats

I wish I knew a way to check the equipment of a certain troop. It really makes a huge difference, people focus way too much on the skill side of things.

Yeah, that'd be nice. As far as i remember, Sharpshooters are either armed with an Arbalist or Heavy xbow, both of which are good
