Custom Troops
This is a feature I've always wanted in Mount & Blade. The ability to create not only your own kingdom, but your own troops as well. It is a feature I also know many of you also want. So my question is why hasn't it been added? It is something that would only improve the gameplay by creating your truly own kingdom.

Because making truly your own would be very difficult to implement and balance.

as much as I would like expanded game-play features to be continually added to the game, I think the developers should be prioritizing on finishing currently implemented content.

this means fixing the character development (perks, xp progression, etc), quashing the vast swathe of remaining bugs and crash issues, and fleshing out current content.

I hope they stay away from adding new things to the game until they resolve the current issues.

Balance? I'm running an army of cataphracts numbering in the low three hundreds that successful crushed a host of one thousand Vlandians, taking only three knock outs and killing well over seven hundred.

Balance isn't a thing when one faction already has the most heavily armoured cavalry unit.

At what difficulty level?

It would probably be pretty simple, lol. A lot of warband mods have this feature. You could just have an editable inventory for each stage of a generic infantry/cav/archer tree with higher tiers of armor and weapon becoming usable at higher levels of the tree. You could balance the custom troops by having recruitment costs scale with the price of their gear.

Very simple.

At what difficulty level?
Normal difficulty. Most armies tend to melt the moment you have mass cavalry on any difficulty.

Try going headsplash into triple the infantry numbers in realistic difficulty and see how long they last. lol

There is no "normal" difficulty.

So Easy? It's a bold claim. Maybe half where recruits?

I'd rather they fix perk tree and xp first

Its a different thing adding one specific unit or handing out a tool to make any kind of unit from scrap.

Not a biggy on very easy. Even less if half they field is recruits.

Warband has a mod where you can make your own troops. It presents you with a troop tree that has branches just like normal troops. Only you are given a set amount of gold and xp for each troop level to choose their equipment and skill. It was very well done.

On a separate note AI combat in Bannerlord is trash. The base code for the game is outdated. AI will literally let you kite entire armies or stand there and let you shoot them in the face with a bow. After all that hype and waiting and talk about AI i thought we would get something that scaled to 2020. Literally all the AI does is react faster...

There is a mod that converts captured settlements to the controlling factions culture so that you can recruit your own troop types.

You can effectively create your own units by playing with the character file and changing the gear to your preference. This would be a pain to do obviously, but combined with the above it's possible. I have no idea how to mod that kind of thing but I bet some smarty could do it.

I see people talk about balance, but really, bannerlord is about roleplay, it's up to you to make the troops somewhat balanced (if you want your army to be balanced compared to other troop trees ofc). If you only go with what is strongest (meta), then the game gets stale imo. No one forces you to use it by the way... if you think you can't make balanced units or simply wish to use other kingdoms' units... you're free to do so: the presence of custom troop trees don't prevent you from doing that.

Plus, by the time you have your own kingdom, it's the late game, and you are probably already steamrolling your way through Calradia... why not make it even more fun and rewarding to start your own kingdom by adding said custom troop tree?

CTT in Warband did this pretty well, so I don't see a reason as to why it wouldn't be possible for bannerlord (especially since it's supposed to be much more moddable than Warband).

That would be cool. :) Maybe not necessarily when you created your kingdom if you want to play as vassal or mercenary. After all, the other mercenaries have their uniques troops too.
