Kids in Bannerlord
Though having kids and building a clan in Bannerlord may seem cool, it isn't executed well.

After helping Battania conquer the whole map, I decided that I wanted to see what would happen if I waited in a town with my wife and kids for several hours.

I ended up with 13 kids. Considering the time period, this isn't ridiculous, but when most of your kids don't die from the plague, it becomes a problem. Because I was staying in Pravend with my wife we endlessly reproduced until she reached the in-game version of menopause (Between 40-45).

I think it would good if Tale Worlds added a conversation option that allowed the player to "make love" to their partners, which would cause the wife to become pregnant, rather than endlessly having kids whether she is in the player's party or staying in a town with the player.

I was initially excited to see that my children were fully grown, but I was disappointed after seeing that all boys look the same and all girls look the same. This really isn't a big deal as most players won't make it to this point as it has been several in-game decades since the whole map was conquered.

Kids are also completely useless. Upon coming of age, kids are lvl 14, have -465 skill points, have a learning rate of 0 for everything, and have no attribute or focus points. Kids are permanently stuck at their degenerative skill levels. If your son has 20 one-handed skill, he will always have 20 one-handed. Thus rendering kids completely useless as companions are much better.

Though having a development system so kids could earn skills as they were growing up would be cool, it'll probably be a lot of work. Kids would be less useless if they started at lvl 1 with the initial combination of skills and attributes that their parents started with, and didn't have -465 skill points. It would also be cool if the player could take over as their child once they come of age. Having children just be extra companions also seems counter-intuitive, it would be better if they acted as other NPC lords did, and the player didn't have to micromanage their every action.

I understand that this game is still in early access, and work will be done. At the end of the day, if Tale Worlds doesn't change the inheritance system at all, I'm still gonna play the crap out of Bannerlord, the game truly is a masterpiece.

I couldn't agree more willyboyjr. The -465 skill points still baffles me, as the developers could have made it to be -365 to signify the amount of days of the year I will spend crying over the complete and utter uselessness of my Bannerlord offspring. Your idea about combining the attributes of the parents is exactly what I thought of and it only makes sense. As you said, the game is still in it's youth, and this is a comparatively minute issue in the grand scheme of the masterpiece that is Bannerlord, but it would be nice to see an update in the future.
Yeah i wouldnt even bother with children and player death until they make children not absolute dumpster fires at age 18

Yeah that's definitely the move. If you're backing a faction the whole map can be taken over well before kids are grown, making the whole inheritance and child system kinda useless so I kinda wonder why the developers even bothered with it.

Willing to bet they haven't bug tested the skills with children yet so they make it nearly impossible to level them.
Given a lot of perks don't work for the player at the moment.

So it's probably just a placeholder thing. One of many of their long list of things to work on in early access.

I'm sure it will be looked at but for now it's best to just hope a mod comes along that solves the issue.

Im thinking the heir system is supposed to make long campaigns a thing, like for when they finally implement rebellions (which sadly isnt in yet) and building a long dynasty, which is something i like the idea of, theres just no point of creating spawn in the game atm (i mean i guess if you like to roleplay your character as a sex machine lmao)

Yeah that makes sense. Seeing as how the game blew up the devs certainley have their hands full for a while so mods will definitely come in clutch

Btw not super related to this but skills are bugged for lords too, I did tutor a lord and basically only way to get skill points was smithing and even that would take too long. I ended up being saved any relation hit with a war terminating the quest.
Yeah I found that stealing the lord's equipment during the quest and just giving up after that was more useful than actually trying to beat it.

Might just have to do a playthrough where I endlessly have children and execute every lord in sight. Would be kinda cool if the only people left in Calradia were me and my worthless demon spawn.

They need to up the chance for lords to have children as well, and get married (obv not married now as there isnt many marriable women lords atm for every lord) otherwise they'll age and die and have less lords on the game map (when age is implemented) but im assuming thats planned

I have seen a couple lords have kids and some of noble children grow up to be adults and they do the normal lordly stuff, but I haven't seen them get married and as far as I can tell (once age is in) there won't be any lords after the second generation.
